IMPORTANT SAFETY TIPS WHEN IN GAS STATION

I know most of the steemians here owns a car and are driving then every now and then will drive to a gas station to refuel.

And hearing news about accidents happened within a gas station, like blasting while refueling, etc. made me want to share some safety tips that we should practice while we are in a gas station.

I know that this is basic but we tend to ignore it that is why accidents happened.

So the following points or tips are very important, and we should always remember those guidelines to keep away from mishaps:

I know a lot of people are not doing this but it’s better and safer to turn off your vehicle's engine when refueling.

Another significant thing to avoid when in a gas station is smoking cigarettes. We should refrain from smoking, or we should not light matches or use lighters while refueling.

It is also not advisable to get in and out of your vehicle while refueling. A static electric charge can develop as we slide across the seat, this is to avoid igniting gasoline vapor with a spark when reaching the pump.

Although I’m not sure with the other countries wherein they are already practicing self-service so there’s no way to get their car refueled without going out from your car.

Anyhow there is something we can do here to keep away from spark that could ignite gasoline vapor, we just have to touch any metal outside the vehicle before touching or removing the nozzle from the car.

I know of lot of drivers don’t observe this one but it is indeed highly recommended not to use Cell Phone while pumping gas.

Although I learned that electricity used in using cell phones or mobiles phones won’t really contribute to a possible blasting or explosion but the defective battery of the phone can so it’s better to avoid using them while refueling we never know if the battery we are using is defective or not.

In order not to attract or induce fire when someone is smoking nearby, we should avoid overfilling, this is actually applicable for a self-service gas station and so far I don’t see one in the Philippines and also here in Saudi Arabia.

So those are the basic precautions that we should take into consideration if we want to stay out of trouble while in a gas station, otherwise untoward incidents might happen that we will regret later.
