Star Trek trekking 1:"Star Trek: The Motion Picture"

First in the Star Trek movies series released in 1979. Directed by Robert Wise and based on the television series created by Gene Roddenberry.

The movie is a super slow neverending saga of epic awe and wonder space scenes. Director had a great need to show his audience how big space is and how massive are the spaceships. Taking into consideration that this movie was made 40 years ago it does a great job of depicting that. On another hand, the acting, IMHO, is without any passion. Facial expressions of actors are bland and unconvincing. Only exemption on that is when Spock is on Vulcan in the ceremony that will make him a full-fledged part of Vulcan society, and disappointment is clearly seen on the masters of ceremony face when she realizes that Spock is not ready. And that should not be because Vulcans are beings governed by logic and not by emotions. In my opinion, this is a big slip up on the directors part.
V'ger or should I say Voyager 6 as the main bad character in this movie is a quite trippy construct. You know, your standard deep space probe turned sentient being with an identity crisis. I guess it is ok, you know, it was 70-es and acid was all the rage back then.
I don't understand why would V'ger call itself like that. It is not plausible that it would name itself from a smudged plate. It just doesn't sit right with me.
Also, I have a problem with V'gers origins. Why would a race of sentient machines turn something that is a prehistoric, from their point of view, into one of them?

All said, in my opinion, this is a not so great movie but being a first in Star Trek saga it is a part of a great cinematic history so it should be seen by everybody that take interest in such things.
