I once visited Phoenix, Arizona. It seemed that half the lawns there were grass with underground watering systems and the others were cacti and succulents with sand or stone like your photo.
I see that such a solution is popular. Probably because it allows obtaining beautiful results with minimum expenses :D Thank you for sharing your experience!
