Wednesday Walk: walking along the old warehouse behind the Post Office, เดินเล่นถนนเส้นหลังไปรษณีย์กลาง

This is my entry for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay. This is a continuation of my visit to the Grand Post Office building in Bangkok and the Thailand Creative and Design Center.

This side road is just behind the old Post Office building, you could see the TCDC sign at the back of the building. This road has very big old warehouses which have been recently converted into a niche shopping area with several open plan restaurants and coffee shops.

Most of the vendors and coffee shops here are specifically designed by artists and modern architects. I felt as if I was in a strange country where people have totally different and weird culture even though they look like Thai people to me.

The menu was quite interesting full of strange dishes and most of the cooks were very strong muscular bike riders! Cooking smoke filled the air while customers ordered weird drinks and funny looking food. I suddenly thought about Harry Potter’s film and wizards’ food! Actually they are mostly fusion food, they mix Thai with Mexican food in the same dish! Those funny names on the menu did give me a headache, as I couldn’t pronounce those words. There are art objects scattered all over the place . The atmosphere is very nice and quite Bohemian.

หลังจากเดินสำรตึกไปรษณีย์กลางแล้ว เราไปเดินเล่นที่ TCDC เพื่อขึ้นไปบนดาดฟ้าเพื่อดูวิวรอบๆ ตามโพสต์ก่อนหน้านี้ เราเดินสำรวจไปเรื่อยๆ เพื่อหาทางไปขึ้นเรือที่ท่าน้ำสี่พระยา มีคนช่วยบอกทางให้เดินไปตามถนนที่มีโกดังเก่าแถวหนึ่ง ซึ่งได้กลายเป็นแหล่งช็อปปิ้ง และนั่งเล่นกินข้าว ดื่มกาแฟในบรรยากาศที่แปลกที่สุดเท่าที่เคยเจอในกรุงเทพฯ การออกแบบโกดังใหม่นี่ ทำให้คิดถึงที่เดินเล่น ในลอนดอน แถวโคเวนการ์เด้นท์ โกดังสินค้าเก่าๆหลายหลังกลายเป็นแหล่งนัดพบของพวกนักออกแบบ และศิลปินในเมืองลอนดอน

They also have fermented food!

เราก็ไม่ลังเลรีบเดินไปดูว่า ร้านกาแฟและร้านอาหารเหล่านี้ ขายอะไรบ้างและมีการจัดร้านอย่างไร เราคิดว่าที่นี่เป็นอะไรที่แหวกแนวมาก คนที่มาที่นี่ก็ดูเป็นคนที่มี่การศึกษาและมีรสนิยมดีมากๆ. เราคิดว่าคงเป็นคนที่ทำงานด้านการออกแบบ และเป็นสถาปนิก หรืองานด้านกราฟิกดีไซด์ ส่วนคนทำอาหารนี่ เป็นพ่อครัวแบบที่เราไม่เคยเจอมาก่อน ดูเหมือนพ่อครัวเป็นคนที่ชอบบิกไปท์และมาทำครัวเป็นงานอดิเรก ยิ่งถ้าอ่านเมนูแล้ว เราสั่งไม่เป็นเลย เป็นภาษาอังกฤษหมด แต่ก็ไม่รู้จักอาหารพวกนี้มาก่อน เขาคิดสร้างสรรค์ชื่ออาหารใหม่เพียบเลย แม้กระทั่งเครื่องดื่ม เราก็ไม่รู้จัก เลยไม่กล้าสั่งมากิน กลัวว่าจะเป็นปัญหากินไม่ได้. แต่เราได้เดินถ่ายรูปอย่างสบายใจ. บรรยากาศเหมาะสำหรับมากินข้าวกันเป็นหมู่คณะ คงจะสนุกมาก
