Wednesday Walk: walking along a quiet road in Bangkok, เดินเล่นตามถนนรอบนอกกรุงเทพฯ

This is my entry for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay. Several days ago I had a walking exercise along a local road to update myself on changes in the area. The weather was nice and sunny with gentle breeze just right for an afternoon walk.

These houses are called town houses whose architectural design has become very popular in the 1960s. People find these town houses very affordable and convenient as they could use the ground floor as a shop or restaurant while living on the upper floors. These old town houses are being slowly bought by condo development projects and shopping malls. The architecture of modern town houses is very different from these typical blocks of similar houses. But I still like the old design as these buildings seem much stronger than plush new town houses.

This shop installs well known brands of car stereo systems and special anti UV film. Several expensive cars are waiting for new stereo systems.

Street food is very popular with taxi drivers in this area and there are several food stalls for choices.

This shop has installed both the ‘Nang Kwag’ and Naga in front of its door to bring in customers and wealth.

I was quite amazed by all the pot plants people put in front of their houses.

เมื่อมีเวลาว่างเราชอบไปเดินออกกำลังกาย และเดินเที่ยวเล่นตามถนนสายเล็กๆ ที่มีชุมชนและตึกแถวที่มีห้างร้าน เพื่อสำรวจดูวิถีชีวิตของคนและความเปลี่ยนแปลงในทางสังคม. ตึกแถวพวกนี้เป็นสถาปัตยกรรมที่มีมานานกว่าสี่สิบปีแล้ว นับว่าการแพร่หลายของตึกแถว ทำให้คนมีท่ีทำกินและที่อยู่อาศัยในราคาที่สามารถหาเงินมาผ่อนส่งได้ เราขอบตึกแถวโบราณ ดูมีเรื่องราวของอดีตและประวัติศาสตร์. ส่วนตึกแถวสมัยใหม่ก็มีการยกระดับการออกแบบ และเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็นทาวน์เฮาว์สที่มีราคาสูงขึ้น

ตึกแถวแบบนี้มีความยืดหยุ่นมาก ผู้อยู่อาศัยสามารถใช้ชั้นล่างเป็นร้านค้า สำนักงาน ร้านขายของหรือขายอาหาร แล้วทำชั้นบนเป็นที่อยู่อาศัย และถ้ามีดาดฟ้าก็ยังทำเป็นสวนปลูกต้นไม้ใส่กระถางได้ด้วย คนสมัยก่อนก็อยู่กันแบบง่ายๆ แทบไม่ต้องใช้แอร์เลย เด็กๆก็วิ่งเล่นที่หน้าบ้าน ทุกคนในระแวกบ้านก็จะรู้จักกันหมด เราดีใจที่ยังเห็นร้านตามตึกแถวที่เปิดมาตั้งแต่สมัยก่อน ต่อไปคนจะต้องไปเข้าห้างใหญ่ๆ เพื่อซื้อของกันหมด แล้วร้านตามตึกแถวก็จะกลายเป็นอดีตไป

In the near future, all these shops would disappear as people would go shopping in big shopping complex with cool air-conditioning and online shopping will replace traditional grocery stores. These third generation of Chinese-Thai people would totally disappear, leaving those millennial and transhuman generations to deal with virtual and augmented reality. I think this may be the last two decades for people with feelings and human consciousness. In fifty years’ time, these town houses would have been transformed into parts of cyber city. Some shop houses might be preserved as museums of the pre-virtual financial system. Robots and cyborgs would be walking along this road instead of human beings. We might be the last generation without microchips implanted in our bodies!

A hair salon sells bananas and some fruits from a relative’ s garden in the countryside.

I wonder whether stray cats would be around in five decades or we are going to be left with cat graffiti.

This tyre shop has its own cat goddess to attract good fortune!

Will the future generations still have spirit houses and Chao Tee houses in their premises?

อีกห้าสิบปีข้างหน้า ตึกแถวคงไม่มีแล้ว ร้านต่างๆก็คงหายไปหมด คนรุ่นใหม่ในอนาคตคงไปเดินห้างใหญ่ที่มีแอร์กัน และสั่งของออนไลน์กันส่วนมาก คนก็จะหายไปจากถนน. คงมีหุ่นยนต์มาเดินบนถนนแทนคน และแมวจรจัดคงหายไปหมด เหลือแต่รูปภาพบนกำแพง ตึกแถวพวกนี้อาจจะกลายเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ให้คนยุคอวกาศดูว่า คนรุ่นเก่าเขาอยู่อย่างไรโดยไม่มีหุ่นยนต์ เราอาจจะเป็นคนยุคสุดท้ายที่ มีความรูสึกและความคิดโดยไม่ต้องมีไมโครชิปในสมอง
