My backup water supply, ติดตั้งเครื่องสูบนํ้าใหม่

This is my entry for #thaiphotocontest57 for people photography hosted by @thaiteam. Living in the countryside means that the water supply is not always reliable and the electricity supply can be inconsistent during storms. Life becomes very difficult without running water for cooking, washing and drinking. So, we have to install a backup water supply on high platform. The same people who built my house managed to build a platform where a water tank was placed high up for gravitational purpose.

But we still need to get the water up to fill the water tank which is six meters above ground. The old pump had not been used for several months and we found out that rusty parts inside became stuck and would no longer work. After trying to find spare parts to repair the old pump, the technician told me that there was another problem which could not be repaired. So, I had to buy a brand new water pump. This team of technician and builders finally came to install the new water pump. They have been very busy building two houses for some expats who are married to local villagers. But, they were very nice and took some time off to do the work for me.

This process took longer than I thought, as they had to remove the old water pump and all the plumbing. After installing the new pump, they had to get new connectors and pipes for the new system and reconnect the electricity supply to the new pump. Watching them getting seriously busy in the garden, I admired their skills and abilities to learn on the job. These local villagers did not have any formal training on plumbing or construction work. Only one of the three ladies had been to a local technical college, so she is a certified electrician. It took them over three hours to finish the job and we tested the new water system which worked very well. From now on, when there is a black out or a burst in the main pipe in the village, we should have water supply for at least three days.

การใช้ชีวิตในบ้านสวนที่อยู่ในที่ไกลความเจริญ จะมีปัญหาในเรื่องนํ้าประปาไม่มีความแน่นอน ในกรณีที่เกิดพายุทำให้ไฟดับ หรือรถไถขนาดใหญ่ทำให้ท่อน้ำแตก พอไม่มีนํ้าใช้ตามปกติก็ทำให้ชีวิตลำบากมาก เพราะไม่สามารถทำอาหาร และต้มนํ้าใช้ดื่ม ตลอดจนไม่มีนํ้าใช้ในการชะล้างทำความสะอาด เราจึงขอให้ช่างที่เคยช่วยสร้างบ้าน มาแก้ปัญหาด้วยการสร้างแท่นสูงๆเพื่อวางถังนํ้าสำรองไว้ใช้ในยามไฟดับหรือขาดนํ้าประปาหมู่บ้าน แต่เราก็ต้องซื้อเครื่องสูบน้ำใหม่ เพราะของเก่าไม่ได้ใช้นาน มันจึงขึ้นสนิมจนเสีย

เราก็ต้องนัดให้ช่างมาช่วยติดตั้งเครื่องสูบนํ้าใหม่ให้ที่บ้าน พวกเขาก็มีงานเร่งมาก เพราะกำลังสร้างบ้านให้ฝรั่งที่แต่งงานกับคนท้องที่สองหลัง แต่เขาก็หาเวลามาช่วยจัดการให้. เราเฝ้าดูเขาทำงานแล้ว ค่อนข้างทึ่งในความสามารถของคนเหล่านี้มาก เพราะส่วนใหญ่ไม่ได้มีการศึกษาสูง เขาเรียนรู้จากการทำงานโดยตรง มีผู้หญิงคนเดียวที่จบด้านเทคนิคการไฟฟ้า พวกเขาใช้เวลาสามชั่วโมงในการถอดเครื่องเก่าออก แล้วติดตั้งเครื่องสูบน้ำใหม่ เขาต้องรื้อท่อนํ้าเดิมออก. และติดตั้งข้อต่อใหม่หมด งานนี้ยุ่งยากพอสมควร แต่เขาก็ทำสำเร็จ พวกเราทดสอบระบบนํ้าสำรองจนเป็นที่พอใจมาก คราวนี้ถึงแม้ไฟดับหรือน้ำประปาไม่ไหลสักวัน. เราก็สามารถใช้ชีวิตได้ปกติอีกสามสี่วัน ต่อไปเราต้องคิดเรื่องระบบไฟฟ้าสำรองด้วย
