For a moment I stopped in front of this painting and it really worked on my imagination.
I imagined I was going down this path to this picturesque town. I thought about what kind of shops are in the town, and at the end I moved with my thoughts to the deck of one of the ferries and sailed between the islands..... Upsss.... I am in Vienna in the Albertina Museum.

Für einen Moment blieb ich vor diesem Gemälde stehen und es arbeitete wirklich an meiner Phantasie.
Ich stellte mir vor, daß ich diesem Weg zu dieser malerischen Stadt folgte. Dann dachte ich darüber nach, welche Art von Einkaufsläden in diesem Ort sind. Am Ende ging ich mit meinen Gedanken auf das Deck einer der Fähren und segelte zwischen den Inseln.......... Upsss......... ich bin in Wien im Albertina Museum!

'The New Objectivity movement also saw a return to nature, order, and the genre.
The artist Herbert Reyl-Hanisch was concerned with translating human emotions into so-called 'landscapes of the soul'. The viewer of this picture looks down on an apparently medieval city from an elevation. It is no existing city though, but rather an ideal picture composed as a toy landscape. A wide path leads down to the city centre, which is dominated by a twin-towered church. An industrial port with large warehouses and factories is to be seen on the left while a modern residential neighbourhood extends to the right. The harbour is full of hustle and bustle, ships and boats crowd the water, even a seaplanene is part of the scene. A rugged rock landscape with islands and lighthouse just up off the coast. A dazzling flash of lightning breaks from dark storm clouds.' (text from Albertina Museum)

*'Die große Hafenstadt' *1928

'Die neue Sachlichkeit schlug auch den Weg der Rückkehr zur Natur, zur Ordnung und zum Genre ein. Dem Künstler Herbert Reyl-Hanisch war die Umsetzung menschlicher Empfindungen in sogenannte "Seelenlandschaften" wichtig. Der Betrachter dieses Bildes blickt von einer Anhöhe auf eine mittelalterlich wirkende Stadt. Es ist jedoch keine existierende Stadt, sondern ein als Spielzeuglandschaft komponiertes Idealbild. Ein breiter Weg führt hinab zum Stadtkern, der von einer zweitürmigen Kirche dominiert wird. Links sieht man den Industriehafen mit großen Lagerhäusern und Fabriken, rechts breitet sich die Stadt zu einem modernen Wohnviertel aus. Im Hafen herrscht reges Treiben, Schiffe und Boote tummeln sich auf dem Wasser, sogar ein Wasserflugzeug ist zu erkennen. Der Stadt vorgelagert ist eine zerklüftete Felslandschaft mit Inseln und einem Leuchtturm. Aus dunklen Gewitterwolken entlädt sich ein greller Blitz.' (Quelle: Text aus dem Albertina Museum)
