Speak Out or Hold Your Tongue?

in #busy6 years ago

It is often said that “Don’t say anything if you can’t say something nice.” This is a hard-learning skill, but there is an obvious merit of it.

That “something” said nice or not is deemed by the listener, the recipient. Nothing is universal. What sounds like lullaby to one may sound like a shriek from ghost. What we choose to say nice or not is not determined by the content itself; it is how we put out the message. That’s why there are so many synonyms in any language. It is the words you choose to use, the way you express it.

But then, if one can’t craft this skill, it may really be better off holding your tongue than speaking your mind. For some people, it serves them better to be observers and listeners.

After you observe enough and be a listener long enough, you will gradually understand how to say something nice, every time, to everyone.
