IoTSWC will show how the IoT saves belugas, designs a futuristic fire truck and other innovations
An intelligent platform to control water quality in Alaska and save beluga whales, a smart entrance gate able to open upon arrival of the owner or transform your garage into a giant mailbox for online shopping delivery, a 3D printing solution to analyze the foot of the client in real time and design and produce custom shoes in a couple of hours inside the store, a fully connected and sensorized fire truck capable of measuring its resources and performances, and a powerful platform capable of supplying any device to any platform in a matter of seconds.
These are some of the projects that will be presented at the Internet of Things (IoT) Solutions World Congress 2018 Testing Area. Held at Fira de Barcelona from October 16 to 18, the event will feature 10 testbeds that show how the IoT will reshape the global economy.
The use of IoT technology will help save the beluga whales in Alaska. The Zaragoza company Libelium will take part in the testing area with a solution developed for the Government of Alaska together with Aridea Solutions to monitor the quality of air and water in the area after a gas leak in Cook Inlet, home of the beluga whale , in danger of extinction, through a platform of sensorized buoys.
The wireless sensor system allows to monitor the contamination that affects whales and other aquatic mammals. This is an example of how IoT can help to conserve the marine habitat and the species protected with the IoT technology, which is helping to reduce the warming of the poles and the consequent climate change.
The smart door testbed developed by Marantec and Guh will show a system capable of logically responding to different situations. The gates are able to ventilate the property if it is suggested by temperature and humidity sensors, combining its action with lighting control systems already installed.
They also notify the technical service in case of detecting a breakdown and integrate a delivery service to transform a garage into a mailbox for online purchases or an electric recharging station turning the private garage into a charging point available to the public.
The Danish footwear brand ECCO has partnered with Dassault Systèmes, the 3Dexperience company that leads the way towards sustainable innovations, launching an experience where individual biomechanical data is combined with additive manufacturing to create custom shoes in the store.
Through portable sensors and in just 30 seconds, the 3D scanners determine the individual orthopedic fit and create a personalized midsole, the functional heart of the shoe. In a few hours, custom midsoles are printed for the selected shoe model. This project is disrupting the retail industry, breaking the boundaries of product customization.
Public safety and for workers
The fourth test bench will show an intelligent fire truck developed by Emergency One together with Vodafone, equipped with a set of solutions that allow the automation of different tasks from the control panel.
While labels, sensors and radio frequency hardware ensure that all vital equipment is on board, water sensors measure the capacity of the tank and the amount of water used in each operation. The vehicle can also inform when lights and sirens are on, ensuring equipment is covered from an insurance perspective.
When necessary, the data collected from all the sensors can generate a post-event report that shows who was on board, for how long an incident was attended and other similar data.
Improving worker safety is the main objective of the testbed presented by Wipro, Guardhat, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Aruba Networks that uses industrial IoT technologies to improve worker safety and facilitate compliance with safety regulations and ensure operations in safe conditions.
The solution proposed in the testbed is achieved using intelligent wearables such as helmets and infrastructure, cognitive learning skills and 24 × 7 connection with operations command centers and emergency response teams.
Heavy industry and manufacturing
The steel industry will be the central element in one of the selected test benches. Celsa Group, together with IThinkUPC and Nexiona, have developed the Steel 4.0 IIoT based on the analysis of data for processes and the intelligent monitoring of foundries and rolling mills through a complex analysis applying artificial intelligence techniques to diagnose and predict automatically and continuously the result of industrial processes and make recommendations to improve production and avoid breakdowns or undesired effects for engineers and plant supervisors.
The Chelpipe Group and Zyfra will show an innovative digital consultant for the production of tube rolling that guarantees the highest quality of the product. The Digital Advisor is a recommendation system that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence and Big Data and presents operators with a specific guide to achieve the optimal parameters (energy efficiency, quality, productivity) of each job.
In addition, the implementation of the adviser is possible without capital costs, and its effectiveness becomes evident one month after the introduction due to its high reliability and simplicity.
The innovation presented by Orion will show a disruptive interior positioning solution capable of providing a highly accurate 3D location. While current solutions can not provide accuracy less than 1m due to poor reliability, limited resolution and large form factors, this new 3D wireless location system uses moderate broadband radio signals of 20MHz transmitted from each active label that are received by a set of stationary cubes with known positions, achieving an effect hitherto unpublished.
Complex implementations of industrial IoT that combine sensors and cloud-based platforms will now be almost as easy to configure as a plug-and-play device.
Currently, it takes between 20 and 40 minutes to configure an IoT device and provision it in a cloud management system and in most cases requires a prior configuration by the manufacturers or a manual configuration by the manufacturer. qualified installer. Mocana, together with Intel and ARM, have developed a system capable of configuring equipment and sensors and transmitting relevant data to any cloud-based platform in just a few seconds after power-up.
Testbeds as real examples of use
Testbeds are experimental platforms designed to implement innovative solutions and test them under real operating conditions. These tests explore new technologies or combinations of existing ones with the aim of creating innovative products or techniques with the potential to generate new international standards. The practical applications exhibited in the IoT Solutions World Congress are coordinated and supervised by the Industrial Industrial Consortium (IIC).
IoTSWC is the leading event in industrial Internet and digital transformation of business sectors, combining a congress, a commercial exhibition and a testbeds space. Its next edition expects to bring together 300 exhibitors and 250 speakers from around the world.
The show will show the growth of the IoT and its large-scale implementation in a wide range of industrial and business applications, and will also demonstrate the convergence of this technology with artificial intelligence and blockchain. More than 13,000 professionals from 114 countries visited the last edition of the event.
IoTSWC is part of the Barcelona Industry Week, a platform organized by Fira Barcelona to promote the so-called Industry 4.0 and its application in all sectors. In 2018 it includes three events, Healthio, In (3D) ustry From Needs to Solutions and IoT Solutions World Congress (IoTSWC).
