Lady Amherst’s Pheasant

Scientific Name:

Chrysolophus amherstiae

Status:

resident; naturalised in Britain only;

Voice:

They have a hissing sound like ‘su-ik-ik-ik’ calls at dusk roosts.

Length:

There length ranges from 60-120 cm.

Wingspan:

There wingspan ranges from70-85 cm.

Habitat:

Mixed woodland with dense undergrowth.

Behaviour of Bird:

They are always secretive, gathers in large groups during the season of winter.

Physical Appearance:

They have very long-tailed pheasant with blue grey legs and feet.

Males:

Male is strikingly marked with dark glossy green and white, and a colourful yellow rump with red at a base of tail.
Wings coverts have bluish sheen in good light.

Females:

Plumage is cinnamon-brown and black barring on all wings. They are smaller as compared to males.

Juvenile:

Juvenile are similar to adult but they are dull and no rufous colouring on crown.
