Staircase - What was it about?

Staircase [ a Netflix documentary] discusses the death of Kathleen Peterson a woman who live in Durham, North Caroline, until her death in 2001 and the subsequent prosecution of her husband for first degree murder and the story as the trial develops. Also we find out what happens after the trial up until the end of the documentary over 15 years later. Kathleen was found dead at the bottom of the staircase of her home by her husband Michael Peterson who rang in the call to 911, not once but twice as he hung up the first time.

I enjoyed the documentary a lot and thought that Michael Peterson was harshly treated and imprisoned, until I realized the story we were being told was biased towards Peterson. Even though the police/prosecution were incompetent they still might have got a conclusive conviction if they had given Peterson proper due process rather than trying to fix the evidence against him with false blood spatter analysis. For entertainment purposes and to keep you on the edge of your seat this is 4/5 stars for me, definitely binge worthy.

The Owl Theory

There is a theory that an Owl killed Katherine Peterson as owls live in the area and the type of owl is known for unprovoked attacks on humans however in the context of the death of Kathleen it seems unlikely. Below is the video from Netflix with what the Owl Theory was

Below are comments from a Youtuber who I agree with saying why this theory is unlikely to fit the case:

Cedar pine needles, a tree limb splinter, and owl feathers were all found in Kathleen's hair or on her hands. She had 20-30 strands of her own hair in each hand, and a small owl micro talon was also found on the stairs. The small town prosecution and defense were horrible all around in this botched case, as were the forensic 'experts' like Deaver, Henry Lee, etc.

Blood smears and blood drops were found on the outside brick walkway and the outer portion of the back door. So either the attack (by Mike, an Owl, or Freddy Kreuger wearing Owl Talon gloves) initially started outside, or Mike ran back outside after the supposed 'slip-n-fall' occurred on the steps inside to discard evidence and/or make the crime scene fit his narrative.

If Kathleen was attacked by an Owl outside, she had to have cried out for help and made noise during the struggle. If that's the case, I believe Mike saw it happen and heard the commotion. They both panicked, and rushed inside to seek refuge and to tend to her massive injuries before things spiraled out of control. They ended up at the base of the stairs, and Kathleen was most likely hysterical and in a state of shock, as was Mike - to an extent.
