Merfolk Duel Deck. Let’s Look.
Merfolk. I don’t have much experience with them.
There is some great artwork in this deck, which I really appreciate. But my playing style hasn’t figured out the merfolk duel deck just yet. This seems to have good synergy, let’s see if we can’t learn a few things together, shall we?
I double checked through all of the cards in this one and this is the stock deck. I still compiled a deck list for reference.
Master of Waves
This card doesn’t fully fit into the groove of this deck, but it is the “showcase” card. Now, if you can get a good devotion to blue going it could be really cool. But if it’s a tough battle, you might not get as good results as you were hoping for.
Aquitect’s Will
This is more of a staple card in the deck than you might originally think. Using the flood counters that this card provides, you can make islandwalk a real danger to your opponent.
Master of the Pearl Trident
First off, badass. Second of all this creature boosts all of your Merfolk and guess what. Your Merfolk get islandwalk! (See how Aquitect’s Will comes into play?)
Merfolk Sovereign
Great card for this deck since it boosts all Merfolk. Also nice for the activated ability if you don’t have islandwalk on everything yet.
Cold-Eyed Selkie
This is one of @treigh-c ‘s favorite cards in one of their Commander decks. If you use this deck correctly, you will have islandwalk working on this card and be getting extra draws each turn. Pair that with a few of the cards mentioned earlier and we are talking perfect setups for the rest of the game.
Misdirection
This is a must have. 5 mana is quite a bit, but worth it if you use it on the right spell! You get to choose a new target for a single target spell.
Like I said in the last duel deck post, I don’t get to play much standard anymore. This deck seems fun to play so I am going to figure out a way to use it 😬
That friggin' game...
I was wondering where the misdirection was going to come in from blue. Can you really cast Misdirection by just discarding a critter from your hand? Seems like a freebie.
And I like the concept of devotion. That's new to me and quite cool.
Yeah the discarding from your hand makes it a nice trick-up-the-sleeve for when you are tapped out of mana.
And devotion is pretty cool, it isn’t a mechanic I use much.
Thanks for reading as always @k9disc!
That looks brutal.
