Importance of friendship

Each time I am asked how do I choose my close friends, My first and most important response is... 'A person with a sound mind', by this I do not mean someone who speaks English fluently, No. I mean someone who reasons positively. (This is for me). image source

Now, It is okay to be attracted to or choose your friends and associates base on their physical looks, talent, successful careers and material possessions but if you must choose people to be close to, I mean those who can have access to your personal space, heart and be a part of your life, PLEASE go for SOMEONE with a SOUND MIND.

This is why;
A person with a sound mind automatically has a beautiful heart and works with his/her conscience.

A person with a sound mind isn't perfect but will not deliberately or intentionally hurt you.

A person with a sound mind will respect what you stand for and value you base on who you are and not because of what you are.

A person with a sound mind may not have it all in supporting you but will do their best to encourage you into greatness.

A person with a sound mind will stand by you, not just in good times but also when things gets tough with you.

A person with a sound mind will not judge you when you go wrong, but will try to understand you while they help you fix up your mess.

A person with a sound mind will never get jealous at your success because he or she understand that if it works for you, it works for them too.

A person with a sound mind will love you, celebrate you, sing your praises and still correct you when you go wrong.

A person with a sound mind will not betray you at the expense of your downfall because he or she understands the ethics of friendship.

A person with a sound mind will rather quit the friendship, let go all odds and move on if things no longer go well with you both than stick with you in pretence and expose you to your enemies.

I can go on but guess what?
A sound mind isn't found in one's look or ability to acquire material possession, it is found in the way one behaves, what they stand for, their way of reasoning, the manner in which they relate with people, act, react and interpret the issues of life.

Who have you given access to your personal space?
Do they possess any of these characteristics?
If they don't, then you have to stop hanging around just anybody and begin to Live your life consciously.

PS: There is a great 'power of influence', 'law of cause and effect' that Comes with friendship hence stick to people with sound mind if you are not ready for drama in your life or you learn to stick ALL about YOURSELF to YOURSELF and GOD.
