Los gallos de riña antes de entrar en el entrenamiento previo a la pelea se le suelen cortar la cresta y la barba.
Esto para que el animal en el combate se sienta menos fatigado.
Del mismo modo cuando el gallo ya no tiene cresta, al contrario se le hace mas complicado en la riña picar, ya que este no sigue contando con los cartílagos naturales como lo son la cresta y la barba
