Why California's Drought Is A Joke

Water Fowl Swimming In Garbage on the Beach

So today there was some quick rain and thunder here in Santa Monica which is extremely rare here in the summer. But it gives me a chance to bring up one of my pet peeves.

Here in SoCal we are in a constant state of drought and while I believe there is less water and more competition for that resource I contend that our drought is about money. It's harder for businesses to make money using free water when there is less of it. The solution has always been to make consumers use less of it and pay more for it. Water restrictions, violations of them and rising costs are not the solution, only a way for the State to make more money and cater to those using our water for free.

One of the things that really gets me going is how we waste the water when it comes. When it rains in the Palisades, all the water is funneled down the hills and into the ocean and picks up a years worth of garbage along the way. All that fresh filthy water and garbage is pushed right out to sea.

I know it would cost a lot of process and keep that water but since we know we are in a constant state of drought it would be a good investment. But, it won't be worth it if CA can get individual consumers to pay more for water.

Here are some more shots of the process of rain sweeping itself and garbage into the sea by man made traps. Notice as it is funneled over the beach until it reaches the sea. Enjoy

Standing on the beach looking back at the street. Notice the hill and the water flowing from town onto the beach. That is not a lake. There is usually no water there. Notice the Umbrella. I didn't put it there lol. If was swept down Sunset Blvd like the rest of the garbage.

The fresh water inching its way across the beach down to the ocean.

The point of no return. The fresh water and garbage is about to reach the Pacific

Just wanted to throw in a shot of the beach before the rain started. Way to go California!

I really don't understand why people can't place their garbage where it belongs to to be disposed properly 😔 @peekbit

you are right but one of the problems here is that it never rains. So when it does all the junk in the street flows down to the ocean. Think of all the little things like motor grease and bits of rubbish that accumulate over the year until rainy season starts. It's gross. Today we had unusual rain. I have never heard thunder before in the summer time.

Yes - difficult - but one really should take care of all these 'little stuff'. It definitely does not belong on the streets 😔
