Break Free from that Addiction

in #busy7 years ago (edited)

I have discovered when we as humans are trying to stop a bad habit, change a character we don't like or break an addiction we often take the outside-in approach.

We tend to want to change this things from without(outside), we say things like, I will stop going
there, I'll stop saying or doing this

I'm sure we know the end result of that, It won't work

We are taking a wrong approach to the right decision. If you're on a football pitch and we all know the aim on a soccer is to hit a goal, but then you can't pick up the ball in your hands and throw it into the net.

Of a true, you scored but what you did was against the rule guiding soccer game, your goal won't count!

This is the same thing most of us do today and we wonder why we aren't getting our desired result. It is simply because we are not playing according to principles that guide these things.

In dwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep to the simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. In governing, don’t try to control. In work, do what you enjoy. In family life, be completely present.”
― Lao Tzu

I've wrote a couple of things on how the mind works, as humans we are a product of our mind

That character flaw, that addiction you're trying to break evolves from your mind.

Your mind is the birth place of things, you think it and before you know it you're acting it out.

Your mind is where the real change needs to begin!

We need to stop concentrating on changing things from the outside , it won't last because true transformation starts from within!

The truth remains that external forces does little has little impact on us compare to forces that reside inside of us.

Some little things we focus our minds on and feel it doesn't matter because they appear harmless and cool through conscious/unconscious feeding will turn out to become an character/addiction we may not easily break from.

Remember true change begins within, before it reflects on the outside, what are you doing when no one is watching? How do you really feel about yourself? What do you call yourself under your breath?

Another thing even when we try to break free from addictions is our fundamental belief system. When effecting change from within, we need to believe we can really change.

You might have been battling with that addiction for decades and you feel so strong that it is not possible to break free, at times you even claim it's in your DNA, that this is who your father/mother was, so you'll intend to manage it till the end.

**_This belief is not true! Characters are things we pick from our environment and people that surrounds us, when you're born, you have no personal character, it is as you grow you practice what you see and hear.

Any character, good or bad, is an habit you practice over time before it becomes part of you and if it's a result of overtime practice, you can pick up a new one and with time it becomes part of you.

I'm sure you've heard the idiom Change is constant Nothing about human is permanent, as long as you're on earth, everything here is designed to change over time.

You need to understand and believe you can become that person you've always wanted to become, you're not born with that addiction, you may decide not to die with it.

We need to break away from some belief system we have inclined our mind with if we will take control over our mind.

It is important you guard your heart with all sense of responsibility, and be the conscious and deliberate about what you allow through the windows of your heart.

Conclusively, I end with Forrest Curran words in (lPurple Buddha Project: Purple Book of Self-Love) . Forest said:

“By creating an image of low self- esteem within ourselves, we bomb and terrorize our true self. When we refuse to forgive, we create an insensible war from old grudges. When we allow stress to impede our healthy flow of energy, we create the weapon of destruction that kills humanity.”

Let me share a story of an old frail man that sought refuge in the house of a young man sometimes in the winter. This man looked shrink and harmless, and the owner of the house allowed him to stay in a room amongst his many rooms.
He began to feed this man with good food, milk and supplements, that this initially frail old man grew bigger and stronger overtime, he grew so much that he took the house owner as a slave in his own house and controlled.

This story depicts how we develop addiction and bad habits, at first it looked harmless and insignificant but it accumulation becomes a strong chord we pray to break.

Be intentional about your thinking, don't allow your mind to just wander about, you are too loaded to be trapped! Break free, you can!
