Science for kids! Let's do science the easy way! - The different parts of science-Part 3
Science is divided into a number of different topics and sub categories. Modern scientists are all specialists in one specific area.
Some of the fields in science falls under the following categories, while others may be a combination of all three. The main topics are:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
What is biology?
Biology is any science concerning living things. Biologists investigate every aspect of life starting with the smallest of cells up to the behavior of large animals. Here are a few different jobs that are possible when you are interested in studying biology.
The following categories fall under biology:
Zoology- A zoologist discovers and investigates everything there is to know about animals.
Microbiology- This is exactly what the name says. Microscopes are used to see everything that is hidden to the human eye. From the smallest cell in the body to the tiniest bacteria.
Medicine- Knowledge of biochemistry, microbiology and anatomy is combined to diagnose and treat diseases.
Botany- A botanist is a person that is doing a study of plants. Anything regarding plants falls under this category under biology.
Ecology- An ecologist studies a community of organisms and how they survive and live with each other
Paleontology- A paleontologist makes a study of fossils and studies the remains of animals to see how they relate to modern species.
