Distraught Magazine craftsman Don Martin made the possibility of Gorilla Suit Day for a 1963 funny cartoon in which a character derides the occasion and is then ambushed by gorillas and individuals in gorilla suits. Since that time, the occasion has been semi-commended each year by aficionados of Mad Magazine and Don Martin by sprucing up in a gorilla suit.
