It's an invaluable luxury that we have more books available to read than we ever could in a thousand lifetimes. And such a tragedy that so many people go through their entire adult lives having never read one from cover to cover. When they get out of school they're relieved that they don't have to read books anymore.
There's no greater measure for the failure of a school system than the number of students who graduate from that school, then leave so uninspired that they choose to avoid learning for the rest of their lives.
