I Get Paid To Shoot Real Zombies Because I Am Obsessed With Learning (TRUE STORY)

in #business7 years ago

Trust me, you'll want to read this story. It has everything, zombies, inspiration, business strategy and a payday. This is how my love for learning will allow me to shoot real live zombies. Check it out...

One thing that I constantly try to do is learn passively.  I listen to podcasts and audiobooks while I drive, cut the grass or workout. I listen to documentaries while I work on the computer and try to learn while other people are doing everyday tasks. I truly am obsessed with learning.

I try to learn from the best in their fields. I do a lot of digital marketing and one of the best in the world is Russell Brunson, the creator of Click Funnels. A product I use all the time.

He has a free product called the "Marketing In Your Car Podcast" where he sends you an mp3 player with over 250 podcasts that he recorded while he drove to work.  I went ahead and paid the $9.99 shipping and handling and got my "free" mp3 player about 6 days later.

I'm not telling you this to get you to click on my affiliate link so you buy the podcast, I'm telling you because I have to for the story, trust me. Let me get to the point.

In one of the episodes of the "Marketing In Your Car Podcast" Russell talked about how he went to a corn maze place on Halloween to go and shoot live zombies. Basically you pay like $25 bucks to board a bus and run through a scenario like a haunted house, but where you get to shoot paintball guns out of the windows to hit approaching live zombies.

Zombies were generally college kids that made $50 a night getting shot by paintballs acting like the undead. A really cool concept and something that I immediately wanted to try it. I don't have the money to just go start it, so I put it in the back of my mind.

Fair enough, now to the good stuff. I picked up a new racing track and entertainment facility as a client for my digital media company. It is a gorgeous facility that is large and has tons of space. I had helped them get approved a few years ago using digital media and needed more assistance. They needed help coming up with ideas for the winter months when the racing stopped. I presented some ideas and guess what my top idea was?

No it wasn't "brains." I said how about we shoot zombies? I presented the idea and modified the plan using some of Russell's tips on what he would do better. I took into account the space and created a really cool scenario which keeps the people waiting in line in the snack bar and not outside freezing.

They instantly thought it was a great idea, and I told them I heard about it on a podcast. One of the managers asked, "What's a podcast? I keep hearing about these things?"

I know, right? Anyway, so they are down for the idea if I can show them the numbers. I've been kinda off Steemit today so I could really run the numbers and figure out how to make this thing work. I created an entire strategy and if things go even moderately well the zombie shootout could net around $250,000 in a month with expenses being around $100,000. Profit around $150,000 in a month. Of course, I'll get my 15%.

What is the moral of the story? Learn... and learn daily. Find ways to consume information that can put you in a position to succeed.  I listened to a podcast about marketing and I was able to take a nugget from listening in my car while driving to another client and potentially turn that into an awesome zombie adventure and $20,000.

It pays to learn...

That's great. Love stories like this. I do my best to be proactive in all scenarios as well. Another simple way to learn is during conversation take time to listen to other people's perspectives on life and what they think. You don't always have to believe it, but it always creates an easy way to learn something you may not have known before. Thank you @walkingkeys!

Perfectly executed story. Well done!

Good luck at the meeting! You must let us know!

Thank you so much!!! you rock. I will let you know and thanks for the well wishes.

@walkingkeys, I totally get where you are coming from about learning. My problem is that I often hear so many great ideas that I have a hard time executing.

Thanks for telling you story. It encourages me to learn more and take action as well.

Thanks for reading another post. I appreciate it. The trick is taking good ideas and stashing them away and put yourself in places to succeed. Eventually you will be able to pull them out at the right time if you look for opportunities.

haha I can relate to this. I'm an audio engineer and sometimes it's about pulling a mix idea out of a song I heard a long time ago and seeing if it works!

let us know how the final meeting goes!

Exactly what I am talking about. Right on! I remember you from one of the rap battles, you killed that thing. I'm a follower now. Thanks for checking out my stuff and I am excited to see you apply the same theory to your industry. Very cool. I will let you all know tomorrow. Going to bed now. lol Thanks, man.

Thanks! Yeah just posted another video for this weeks contest! Read a few of your posts now and been enjoying them, thanks for the content!

How'd today go!?

I crushed it, now I have to figure out how to do it. lol Thanks for the support man. I'll have an update soon.
