Dirty business tactics I know

Short Answer: Read the entire thing. You will NOT be disappointed.

Long Answer: I don’t remember exactly where I read this, but the person made a LOT of money off of this.
It was supposed to be a one off thing but since it was so easy, the said person made millions off it. It may not be a business in the traditional sense, but the man made it his daily means to earn his bread and butter so we might as well take it in a gray area.

Lets name our protagonist Mr.X (just to add in the x-factor).
Now Mr. X was a very street smart fellow but wasn’t among us poor souls who think it is necessary to work hard in life to earn our dough.

He decided to use Fifa World Cup(Or was it the IPL?!) to make money.
(Lets call any teams competing against each other A and B).

He gathered a list of 4096 active e-mail IDs(which isn’t very difficult in this day and age).
He divided the list into two equal parts of 2048 (lets call them List 1 and 2)
To all the people in List 1, he sent an e-mail a couple of hours before the match stating that team A would win.
To the other list he sent that Team B would win.

Once the result was out(Lets say Team B won), he had just recieved attention of 2048 people. And he discarded the list that loss.

…………..

He then divided this List 2, into another two lists of 1024(lets call them C and D).
Before the next match, List C got a mail saying that team A would win.
List D got a mail saying team B would win.

Lets assume Team B won.
Now he has sureshot attention of 1024 people(List D) who would now want to bet using his “advice”.

Mr.X repeats the same scenario and divides 1024 into two halves of 512 people.

When the next match was won by any team, he had the total reliability of those 512 people. (Who have seen have advice being correct more than 3 times)

Do you see the trend?

Now this kept on continuing till there were only 2 people left.
Since both of them has won quite a few bets they were both willing to go all in.
Mr. X decides to contact them and a charge a hefty fee for the next bet.

He understands that whoever wins, he sure would get his cut.
And voila!
Exactly the same happens. And he vanishes into thin air.

The schematics of contacting people anonymously/ collecting payments can be easily worked out in this digital era.
