2 Appearances and Packaging

You need to know what attracts your customer. I was told there was a time 7up was a medicinal drink. The market for it was so bad and it was not accepted by most people. They withdrew and re-strategize. They studied their market to know what the people wanted and they came back as a beverage drink, which is now widely accepted globally.

Personally, there are some products I cannot consume because I hate their packaging and there are some I will gladly consume because of their packaging even if I don’t entirely fancy the product. The impact of appearance and packaging cannot be overemphasized. Know how to package your products well, to attract your intended and even potential customers. What colour is acceptable? What fragrance would appeal to your targeted audience? What texture is preferable? How do they want the quality to be? Is it for the low class, middle class, higher class or for everyone? You need to be certain before you go into any kind of production.

3 Brand Name

You need to be known for something. How do you want to be identified? We know the difference between Pepsi Cola and Coca-Cola because of their brand name. The brand name differentiated these products. Your product must have its uniqueness that will endear it to your customers.

When you are selecting your brand name, it has to be unique as I mentioned earlier and it shouldn’t be offensive; both culturally and legally. A lot should be considered before choosing a brand name and you can’t use generic names either. For instance, when you call your product “Lemon drink”. Lemon is generic and you can’t claim such a name since you didn’t come about the name in the first place. You need to be mindful of cultures too because some names might mean one meaning to you but to other tribes, it might be offensive and if that is the case, then you can be sure you have lost the market for that particular side.
