Positioning is basically the way the market thinks of you. A good positioning makes a business stand out from other businesses in the same niche or category and confers it the ability to charge a premium. It makes a business the one and only. "If you can't say you are the only, you need to fix your business, not your brand. Start with a solid platform to effectively articulate your brand's value." Says Will Burke, CEO of Brand Engine.

Zappos, for instance, is about delivering happiness, not about shoes. It's why they put more emphasis on providing incredible customer service, free shipping and offer free 365-day return policy.

Alder Consulting is positioned as "the creative-intelligence company." The company sells knowledge. It's why they charge a premium a premium for their services.

Louis Vuitton is not just about luxury; it's the epitome of modern style. No wonder it's the most valuable brand in luxury.

The question now is, how are you going to position yourself or your business in the mind of your target audience/market, relative to the competition or market leader?
