Is waiting still an option?

Brick and mortar retailers have to transform or they will soon become instinct!

...But the journey doesn't need to be that gloomy. You just have to observe and learn what the big boys are doing. Amazon and Walmart are good examples on changes that can be done at multiple levels.

One side they are obsessed with reducing costs while also focusing on innovation. Lean methodologies have been  introduced, and cross-functional agile teams are empowered to come up with new offerings on a regular basis.

Like startups, these companies have an acceptance for  failing fast. Executive leaders also get engaged in small sprints to explore opportunities and provide faster responses to new market dynamics. And It is only with that engagement level that change can be sustained at lower levels in the organization.

On the other side, these companies also have a deep understanding of desired user experiences. And these experiences are not limited to the digital experience, it is also about in-store experiences.

An omni-channel approach, a convergence between online and in-store purchases, a curated and more dynamic in-store experience, home delivery, in-store pick-up,  are all part the seamless experiences today's consumers expect.
