Tips for Making Powerful and True Connections
Ever wonder why some people move forward in their career and others get stuck? r why no one seem to believe your great idea will work? or does it feel like not getting the recognition or attention you deserve?. All this could be due failure to establish right connection with people or because you don't seem to connect with people when you communicate with them.
The thing is, we all call talk, but can we influence people with our words by making it matter or make it matter?. How can we really make connections with people?. Making people listen to us is a product of connecting with them and this makes our influence increase.
Here are keys that help us connect effectively with people
1. Establish Common Ground
This concept may look simple, however it is a great place to start for someone lacking connection. It should be to establish a form of common ground. When going about this, you shouldn't make the mistake of judging people or making assumptions. At this phase, you try to understand who people are.
During this phase, it is necessary to show more interest in people, we shouldn't however come off as someone fake or uninterested. Been interested in people makes you put efforts as you share things with them. Find something in them that you both have in common. This way you establish connection easily.
2. Keep it Simple
Don't try to act superior when talking to anyone. You should try to things simple as you relate on a personal level so that what you're passing or sharing with them sinks as you establish connection.
Try to make your point by keeping it simple else you severe the connection you're trying to establish. Even if you're to repeat yourself when communicating. As people tend to remember what you say when you do that.
You should try to bombard people with irrelevant stuffs when communicating. Also don't talk too much. Keep the conversation short, sweet and simple and get straight to the point.
3. Create an Experience
Everyone loves to be entertained. Or don't you?. Your conversation with people should be entertaining. Can also make people smile even if the conversation is serious.. The most important thing is to engage them and get their attention when starting the conversation and ensuring it ends in that manner.
Making connections shouldn't all be about you but about others. Let the focus be on your audience to ensure they stick with you.
4. Inspire Others
Most people find it difficult to do this. The best way inspire others is by been real and authentic with them. Be yourself, you probably won't be everybody cup of tea, it's ok. The important thing is to save the tea for people who will like it. Also don't focus your time trying to impress others. Don't be fake trying to impress people.
Been authentic and real will make people always remember you for how you made them feel. Showing gratitude to people by thanking them will make you feel remembered.
5. Demonstrate Credibility
When demonstrating this, don't appear arrogant. See your credibility as a currency when connecting with people. Let what you say and do come from an authentic place. Walk the walk and talk the talk. Don't be an hypocrite. Don't do or say what you can't do.
For example, a drug addict giving you health advice ;). The person is obviously not walking the walk, just talking. Zero credibility here.
