Lawmakers in South Carolina are calling for an end to the chaos that's taking place on the streets of Charleston right now; vendors are selling Booze Pops to the public without the right permit.

What the heck are Booze Pops?

A food truck which sells frozen alcoholic ice pops. Some of their most popular flavors are strawberry, lemonade, and watermelon daiquiris. Aside from alcoholic ice pops they are also selling non-alcoholic ice cream treats.

What's the problem?

South Carolina regulators allegedly had previously made the decision to allow Booze Pops to start selling them without having to have an alcohol permit. They have instead been selling it as a food item.

Because it is currently categorized as a food item, the owner Woodrow Norris says that he is allowed to bring his Booze Pops truck pretty much anywhere he would like.

But if that were to change and they choose to regulate his van like an alcohol seller, then his selling opportunity would likely be more restricted. Norris has said that he could still do many events and sell the product, but he would just have to adjust his approach and likely go through different licensing approach etc.

Norris, who started the Booze Pops company roughly a year ago, says that one day he even imagines having a pontoon boat that will be a Booze Pop boat delivering alcoholic ice pops to customers right on the water.

For now, he's allegedly waiting to hear a response from the Department of Natural Resources regarding that pontoon boat plan.

Norris started the business for his daughters, having put the operation together in just a couple of weeks, and for now he says that all of his profit is going right back into the business.

Apparently the Department of Revenue says that Booze Pops is following the rules as they are written, but the city of Charleston wants the state to reconsider the matter.

They don't like that the food truck is allowed to be selling these frozen alcoholic treats as food, because they say it provides an opportunity for customers to get into trouble or do dangerous things.

The city of Charleston has gone and written a letter to the state agency, urging for a reconsideration on this matter. They want these pops to be reconsidered in accordance with the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act; to include all alcohol-spiked ice pops.

One can only hope that these lawmakers are giving the same time and attention towards matters with criminal property violations and victims looking for some sort of remedy or justice.
