Hello Steemians,

At some point in life, we all get the hankering to become an entrepreneur. We may be called for creating something from scratch or earning money without having to answer to a boss.
Whatever the motivation, the urge strikes us, but only a fraction of us ever take that all-important next step of actually building a business.

So now the question is why most of us failed to take those steps? Reasons can be like most of us already have jobs, and we can’t quit them effortlessly or conveniently, so we just continue working them without pursuing our dreams. But what if someone says you can build a business without putting your job at risk? Yes, it is possible but you need to follow the right steps.

Why not quit?
First, let's see why you are not able to quit your job at the first place? There are some valid reasons, but the reality is, you may not need your job as much as you think you do.

  1. You need money:
You need money because at an early stage of entrepreneur money is tight no matter how good your idea is. However, if you can secure enough venture capital or have a line of credit then you don't need a peripheral job.

  2. You are afraid of plateauing in your career:
Some people worry that if they quit from their 9 to 5 jobs, they might be unable to return to the workforce in the future.
However, this seems illogical in most cases. If you have a good boss or if you trust your supervisor and get their opinion on a potential return if your business doesn’t pan out.

  3. You are not too sure about your business idea:
In this case, you probably shouldn't leave your company if have a little bit doubt on your idea. While it seems some valid idea, why not work on developing your idea?

  1. You are afraid of risk factors:
Well, everything can not be under controlled. If you may want to keep your job as a safety net, but safety nets don’t always lead to a better overall performance.
There is an axiom that Higher risk, higher return. So take risks.

If any of the above reason is stopping from quitting your job then follow these strategies to start a business successfully while still maintaining your daily responsibilities.

A) Focus on idea
While you’re still working, focus on developing your business idea as much as possible. You won’t be under the gun with deadlines, and you won’t be strapped for cash, so make the most of this time by writing up the best possible business plan you can.

B) Build a network- that's what matters:
Unless you are working in isolation, this is a great time to build a great connection which you can use later on. In this period of time trying to get in touch with as many people as possible. You can never predict when or where you’ll meet a potential partner, vendor, client or employee. If you have the wider range of professional contracts, you will have more options when it comes time to expand your business. If you follow this step, it will save you valuable time when you need to be managing your business instead of networking.

C) Don't rush into anything:
If you are doing a full-time job, don't to do everything with your business or don't try to rush the process. Instead of rushing the process, try to take baby-steps. Let's say for some time business is like water- if you are not a good swimmer and if you get in too deep, you’ll lose control over the situation, and you will drown so in business also if you rush the process, you might lose control over the situation, and your business will end up outpacing you.

Last but not the least

D) Maintain balance between job and business:
Try to maintain a balance between your job and business. If you spend too much time on your business, your professional work will suffer, and you may end up losing the career you tried so hard to protect. Spend too much time on your career, and your business won’t have a chance. Keep yourself in balance.

If you follow these strategies, you can build a business while still maintaining your day job. Just remember, there’s no perfect time to start a business. Oftentimes, the best thing to do is throw yourself into something, and make adjustments along the way; otherwise, you may never start at all.
