EDC: Everyday Carry In The Woods (Part Two)

A breakdown of what's in the Camelback Mule Daypack

On the outside are

• Mechanix Camo Gloves

  Relatively flimsy, but form fitting. I like them!

• Spyderco Dragonfly

  A small backup knife that is capable of decent sized tasks. Has unbelievable ergonomics for a small knife. Typical Spyderco quality... a classic. This knife won't scare folks when it is pulled out to open a letter.

In pocket one

• Opinel Folding Pocket Saw

  Good quality from France. Cuts quickly, and is small enough to carry in a pocket. Wooden handle SWEET.

• Fiskars X14 Hand Axe

  My favorite axe! A high value/low cost item that performs very well. Has been Indestructable (knock on wood).

• Condor Bushlore Fixed Blade Knife

  Another high value/low cost item that is a killer value! Hand made quality on the cheap! Feels great in the hand. (Not far from being a pry-bar.) The real leather sheath (alone) is worth the asking price of the knife.

In pocket two

• Six inch Stainless Ruler

  Good for marking lines, drawing in a notepad, and measuring plants/animals.

• Worksharp Knife Sharpener

  This jewel does everything. Has an angle guide, diamond plates, ceramic rods, and leather strop.

• Sharpie

  Marking, drawing, and doodling entertainment.

• Streamlight Pen Light

  Bright, dependable, Led and easy on batteries. (Takes common AAAs)

Eldris deserves his own spotlight

• Morakniv Eldris Fixed Blade Knife

  For wood carving. Has a very good ergonomic grip. Typical Mora quality.
  

• Pro Knot Flash Cards

  How to tie common knots. Handy to have when knot tying skills have not been written to memory yet.

• Brunton, or Silva Compass

  A basic compass for basic orienteering.

• Some reading material

  For downtime under a tree, or sitting in a barn loft.

• Basic First Aid

  Absolutely necessary! Bushcrafters use sharp tools (usually). Crazy Glue is great for wound closure, or liquid skin, and perhaps some butterfly strips.
  

For pocket three

I will continue in Part Three since it contains some really small, intricate, and important parts, for fire building and such.
