How can the Bangladesh Model change Burundi's future? Burundi is one of the poorest countries on earth.

in #burundi3 years ago

Burundi is an east-central african country. It was a Belgian colony. It went through a long civil war, a few famine, and so on. Economically this country is one of the poorest on earth. Many parts of this country have no proper road, primary health care; primary education, or nutrition facilities.

a few years ago their average life expectancy was as below as in the forties. But once civil war passed, life expectancy has risen since. Though they are in food shortages. Many rural people do not even have a sense of currency. They are even ignorant about what's going on in other parts of the world. While their highest money note is BIF 10,000, which is equivalent to three and a half dollars.

Many people work in very poor conditions. People do their job for 10-20 USD per month. Can you believe it? They live in poor conditions, mostly made of mud-brick houses. which are prone to rain.

population density is about 461 per square kilometer. 86 percent of the population is associated with agriculture.

As a Bangladeshi resident, I can relate to their situation. In 1971 when Bangladesh got liberated, it was a war-torn mal-nutrition country too. Population density is one of the highest on earth. Though Bangladesh survived and flourish over time.

Can Burundi follow the Bangladesh model? The answer would be "YES".

What Bangladesh did right was a very few basic things. I am going to discuss those here below.

Education: Bangladesh gave its population primary education.

Woman Workforce: Bangladesh Integrated its woman into the mainstream workforce.

Job: Garments created jobs for more than five million women over time.

Healthcare: Basic Healthcare was provided.

Vaccine: Bangladesh was one of the few countries that gave polio vaccines to most of its population.

Nutrition: Students were provided food for education in schools

Remittance: Skilled workforce sends remittances that helped the Bangladeshi economy and national reserve grow.

Irrigation: Multiple crops were grown in the same field through water and fertilizer management.

I do believe if Burundi follows these things as Bangladesh does, it will one day become a middle-income country soon.

Today I've seen a video by Ruhi Cenet. Which make me think to write this article. I think it might help them grow and live a better life. I am praying for their better future. Hope they gain it soon.
