"SEC | S19W1: Designing lesson plans"

Greetings to the amazing steemians around the globe. It is a beautiful day and also the beginning of another season (S19) on the platform. This time around, the platform has given room for teachers to impart knowledge and also give assignments. Applause to the brilliant teachers (@simonnwigwe, @lil.albab, and @miftahulrizky) for coming up with a topic (lesson plan) that is essential in teaching and learning exercises.

In the field of education, lesson plan is one vital thing to enhance teaching and learning activities. It serves as a guide to the teacher. It helps tell the teacher what to do at every point in time in the classroom. When I was a teacher in one of the secondary schools in Taraba state, Nigeria, we submitted lesson plans to the head teacher every week for marking. That's one of the things that guarantees the school that you are doing your job with all due diligence. Remain blessed as you continue going through it.

It's a privilege to be in a position to make an impact on the life of someone through teaching. In this contest, I will be talking about one of the most simple, popular, but very important topics in physics.

We live in a world where almost everything around is not stagnant. The moon, sun, living things, and even some non-living things change position with time. It physics, the change of that position with respect to time is what we know as Motion. That's my topic for the contest.

Explain how you would design the opening activities, core activities, and closing activities in learning material.

In making lesson plan, the behavioral object, opening activities, also known as the entry behavior, core activities also knows as presentation, and the closing activities also known as the conclusion and recommendations are the core part of lesson plan.

The behavioral activities is talking about what the student are expected to to know at the end of the lesson. Example.

At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:

1. Define motion
2. List five types of motion
3. Differentiate between random and circular motion.

The entry behavior talks about how the teacher is expected to introduce the topic to the students. A good introduction gives the students an insight of what the topic is all about.

For example, if I want to teach the students about the different types of motion, I can call out some students, and give them some piece of paper, a pendulum bob attached to a rub, and a locally made ceiling fan. Then I will give them instruction to observe the kind of movement or motion that each of the materials undergoes as the release the paper, draw the pendulum to a certain angle, and turn the ceiling fan to a certain direction. After that, you will give them room to explain what kind of movement they observed from each of the material. With that, you have given them a clear picture of the different types of motion.

The core activities deals with the teacher presenting the lesson. For example.

Step1. The teacher defined motion as the change of position of an object with respect to time.
Step2. The teacher listed the types of motion as

• random motion
• Circular motion
• Translational motion
• Oscillatory motion
• relative motion

The closing activities deals with how you end the lesson. You can ended the lesson by asking the students questions on the topic discussed. This is to know if they have understood what you thought them or not. At the end, you can decide to give them assignment.
Example.

1. Define motion
2. List 5 types of motion

Assignment.
Write short note on at least four types of motion with 2 examples each.

In teaching and learning, it is almost impossible to use just one (1) teaching method to deliver a lesson effectively. It requires a combination of teaching methods. Nevertheless, the nature of the topic is what determines the kinds of teaching method to apply.

In the case of motion, I do apply discussion method, demonstration method, and practical method for more effectiveness. The intructional materials which compresis of the pieces of papers, simple pendulum, the ceiling fan, and a toy car that at least can be controlled with remote are for demonstrating how different object undergo different kind of motion. You demonstrate it for them to see it practically. More to that, you interact with them by explaining and also giving them room to share their understanding. That's discussion.

What tools and media do you need so that learners can understand it well?

In teaching and learning, there is what we call instructional materials. This are materials that a teacher can bring to the classroom for the students to see. There are very essential because the enhance the understanding of the students. As you explain the topic, the instructional materials are there for you to show the students practical. The instructional materials can be a chart, drawing, or any object that can be used to pass information to the students about the topic.

As for me, if I'm to teach motion, all I need are:

1. ceiling fan to demonstrate circular motion
2. Pieces of paper to demonstrate random motion
3. Simple pendulum to explain oscillatory motion
4. A toy car to explain translational motion.
