Sock Making Progress : 20 January 2024
Here's some progress on the sock front because 'Winter is Coming!'. Actually winter's already here and we're currently with Storm Isha which has brought lots of wind and some rain.

The photo above shows how I've just finished knitting the heel. This is done by knitting half the number of stitches and using a combination of knitting one stitch and slipping the other which is supposed to make this section stronger and hopefully longer lasting.
The photo below shows you a profile of the heel.

It also shows you how I've 'turned the heel'. To shape plain knitting to make it 'turn' you use 'short rows'. After that manoeuvre is done I need to pick up stitches around that rectangle creating like a box where the heel will go. It's a very interesting process which demands some attention.
Sadly I also had to undo two rows which was extremely tricky and time consuming due to the 'three strands of thin yarn, the size of the stitches, and the dark colour of the yarn !
I've certainly learnt a few lessons I'll need to reconsider in future projects. For instance I've started writing things down as I go using my own 'shorthand' to keep track of where I am; it's very easy to forget where I am and the order of decreases.
I'll try to post again tomorrow to show you further progress.
Thank you for reading.
