Project Update #2 : 20 March 2024

I've continued knitting and have advanced quite a bit, as you can see in the photo above.

The body is now all in one piece which means that I'm knitting the fronts and the back at the same time. I've used this video as a guideline to understand what to do :

I have already knitted 8 cm of the body; each row is over 130 stitches so it takes a while to knit. I've also left the two sleeves on hold to be knitted later.

When I finish the garment there will not be side seams so no sewing will be needed there. I'm a little unsure whether or not this is a good idea in case I need to make any alterations to the width because it will be a bit harder without unravelling everything. I reckon I will have to be trying it on soon to find out.

I haven't yet finished the first 200g ball of yarn and there are two others, so I'm hopeful there will be enough yarn to complete this cardigan : sleeves and button band. Once I've knitted around 30 cm I will re-assess the situation.

I'm tempted to make the sleeves first just to make sure I've got enough yarn and to avoid reaching what's apparently known as sleeve island:

Sleeve Island is an imaginary place where all those who don't feel like knitting the second sleeve of a jumper or jacket seek refuge.

I've also decided not to use the round knitted needles for the sleeves because it would be very annoying and difficult to manoeuvre. The plastic cable is very stiff and unwieldy; that was the reason why I didn't make this on the round. It was too hard to control the 6.0mm knitting needles and the cable. As a result of knitting the sleeves flat, there will be sleeve seams to sew at the end, but I honestly don't mind if completion is near.

Although the yarn is thick the project is a bit slow. I'll try to write an update when I've finished the body of the cardigan.
