Bunny Facts
My bunny Clyde.
Bunnies Aren't Nocturnal
Despite popular belief bunnies aren't nocturnal. They are crepuscular which means they are most active at dusk and dawn.
Bunnies Purr
You read that right. It's not like the cat purring that you're used to, but it's just as adorable. When a bunny is calm and content they lightly chomp their teeth. You need to listen closely.
Bunnies Are Fucking Crazy
When a bunny is happy or excited they get a running start and then jump up in the air and kick their feet. This is called a binky.
Bunnies Eat More Than Carrots
We are used to seeing cartoon bunnies eating carrots, but carrots actually aren't very healthy for bunnies to eat.
Carrots are high in sugar and should only be given to bunnies as an occasional treat. A healthy diet consists of an endless supply of timothy hay and some high fiber pellets.
Leafy greens can be added to their diet, but should be introduced slowly.
Your Bunny Owns You
In your bunny's chin is a special gland (called the submandibular cutaneous gland). Whenever your bunny rubs its chin on something it releases a scent other bunnies can smell.
It can mean "I own this" or "I've been here".
My bunny rubs his chin all over his new toys. He also rubs his chin on me sometimes. Like I need a reminder that I'm his bitch.
Bunnies Are Nasty
Sometimes bunnies need to digest their food twice. They eat soft pellets called cecotropes. The hard pellets you see in their cage have already been digested.
I had four pet bunnies as a kid but I cannot even remember if they had names.
We could not move with them and so I was forced to leave them with a friend of mine.
I am now envious of your bunny.
