Mini-project: Cheap Soft-glow Accent Lights
I was in a piddling mood yesterday so I kept myself busy by knocking out a quick little project that’s been knocking around in my head for a while, a set of accent lights for our balcony
Materials:
- 1 - Set of LED “Poster” lights ($1.50 - ‘Dollar General’)
- 2 - Packs of 6 Colored Ping Pong Balls ($0.50 each, ‘Dollar General‘)
- Center punch, Icepick, or Scribe
- Drill with a 3/16” Drill Bit
- Hot Glue Gun
• First, using a scribe, I widened the small pinhole in each of ten ping pong balls. (This takes the place of drilling a small pilot hole before drilling with 3/16" bit)
• Next, I set each ball on a roll of electrical tape for stability & drilled a 3/16” hole in each. (Fast speed works best for drilling something soft as plastic)
• Then, I cleaned the frayed plastic from each hole using an X-acto knife.
• Finally, I glued each light in its own ball. (I screwed the color pattern up but they still turned out pretty good)
NOTE: There was a few steps I couldn’t take pictures of because my hands were full.
