The Life Changing Sayings From Dhammapada That Proves How Practical Buddhism Really Is

in #buddhism7 years ago

Dhammapada is a collection of Buddha sayings in verse form.

It is a compound term composed of "dhamma" and "pada" where "Dhamma" means "righteousness" and "pada" means "path".

Any truth-seeker person irrespective of his relegious beliefs should read this book of wisdom.

Hatred is never overcome by hatred in this world; hatred can only be overcome by love. This is an eternal law.

As a flower that is lovely and beautiful but is scentless, even so fruitless is the well-spoken word of one who does not practise it.

Let not one seek others' faults, things left done and undone by others, but one's own deeds done and undone.

It's better to live alone than to live with a foolish.

As sweet as honey is an evil deed, so thinks the fool so long as it ripens not; but when it ripens, then he comes to grief.

Irrigators lead the waters; fletchers bend the shafts; carpenters bend the wood; the wise control themselves.

As a solid rock is not shaken by the wind, even so the wise are not ruffled by praise or blame.

Whoever harms a harmless person, one pure and guiltless, upon that very fool the evil recoils like fine dust thrown against the wind.

Not in the sky, nor in mid-ocean, nor in a mountain cave, is found that place on earth where abiding one will not be overcome by death.

Thoroughly worn out is this body, a nest of diseases, perishable. This putrid mass breaks up. Truly, life ends in death.

Of bones is this city made, plastered with flesh and blood. Herein are stored decay, death, conceit, and detraction.

Let one first establish oneself in what is proper, and then instruct others. Such a wise man will not be defiled.

Easy to do are things that are hard and not beneficial to oneself, but very, very, difficult indeed, to do is that which is beneficial and good.

Victory breeds hatred. The defeated live in pain. Happily the peaceful live, giving up victory and defeat.

Health is the highest gain. Contentment is the greatest wealth. The trusty are the best kinsmen. Peace is the highest bliss.

One who goes after pleasure envies them who exert themselves.

Conquer anger by love. Conquer evil by good. Conquer the stingy by giving. Conquer the liar by truth.

There never was, there never will be, nor does there exist now, a person who is wholly blamed or wholly praised.

One is not thereby a learned man merely because one speaks much. He who is secure, without hate, and fearless is called "learned".

Hold nothing dear. Indeed separation from dear is painful.

Haven't read these before, not in this life-time that is. But they do seem to hold some high level quality wisdom. Hahaha

Great post! Now following.

I love Buddism very much due to its simplicity and not connected with any magical or hypothetical sayings. With Buddha every person can relate himself and try to become like that.
