December Bitcoin Rally: Rises and Falls over the Years

This year, Santa Claus gave bitcoin enthusiasts a 15.93% gain in December. However, this growth is unlikely to be remembered as an official "Bitcoin-Santa Claus rally" like those seen in 2017 and 2011.
Between the beginning of December 2023 and Christmas Day, the BTC exchange rate rose from $37,721 to an impressive $43,730. Despite this, this rise was only the seventh largest in history, surpassing the marginal 5.6% gain recorded between December 1 and December 24, 2012.
BTC's most significant December rally was in 2017, when the price rose from $9,947 to $14,815 between Dec. 1 and Dec. 24, a 48.94% increase.
In 2011, BTC was up 34.02%, rising from $2.91 to $3.90 per coin over the same period. The last "Santa Claus rally" was recorded in 2016, with the price rising 21.46%, from $743 on December 1 to $902 by Christmas.
In 2010, bitcoin was up 19.05% for December and 18.86% in 2020. In 2015, BTC was up 17.29%. With the exception of 2023 and 2012, all other years such as 2022, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2014 and 2013 experienced bear markets in December. For example, in 2022, the value of BTC fell 2.16% from December 1 to Christmas Day, and in 2018, it fell 2.39%.
December 2019, the price of bitcoin fell 2.77%. In 2021, the price fell 10.70%, and in 2014, it fell 11.72%. The period from December 1 to December 24, 2013 was the sharpest, with BTC prices falling 41.18%. On December 1, 2013, BTC was trading at $1,103 per coin, but fell to $649 per unit by the 24th.
