$500,000 fee for BTC transaction

On September 10th, an unknown user paid 1,982,108,632 satoshis ($510,750) as a fee to miners for a transfer of 0.074 BTC. According to journalist Colin Wu, this is the largest payment in US dollars for transaction confirmation to date. The average Bitcoin network fee is 0.000084 BTC ($2.18), according to BitInfoCharts. Representatives of the F2Pool mining pool, which mined the block, have announced that they will temporarily hold these 19.8 BTC and redistribute them among miners after three days. Earlier, in the second quarter of 2023, Bitcoin miners earned $184 million in fees, a 270% increase from the previous period and exceeding the total for all of 2022. In July 2020, an unknown user moved 132,255 BTC in just two minutes, worth about $1.3 billion at that time, with a total fee of only $1.9.
