If you are not out to the people around you, it can be potentially DANGEROUS to have them see the Grindr app icon in your notifications if they are peeping at your screen. In the settings tab you can find a prompt to change the app icon. It is completely free and requires no subscription.

Thanks for having some sense, I was getting pretty discouraged. It's honestly so weird to me how much PH is defended here. The same site where any type of post even slightly related to nestle is flooded with r/fucknestle comments can't ever seem to find fault in what is essentially the same fucked up shit in porn terms. Taking advantage of vulnerable people to turn a massive profit. Trying to hide all their controversy in feel-good charity moves like the tree planting thing. It's just so frustrating to witness over and over again.

People don't like to think about how their actions might inadvertently support evil.

They wanna rub one out, and you're here with your pesky 'reality' and 'ethics'.

Its the same reason people hate on about vegans for no reason - turns out guilt makes things less enjoyable, so people would rather pretend there is no issue at all than have to actually consider their choices. So you don't like it when people point out things like 'Brock Turner, the rapist?' Pointing out why things are problematic is a good reminder to those who know, and also informs those who don't know. The alternative is ignoring and sweeping under the rug.

Grindr is one of the many reasons I hate being gay. That app is nothing but trash. The only thing you need to create an account is an email, which means that underaged kids can easily create accounts. I’ve seen many kids ~15 on there, and I’ve even seen guys strictly looking for kids, too. Drug usage is a huge issue on Grindr. Drug users use secret words like “parTy” (capital T for tina/crystal meth.) If you do a google search about this problem, you’ll find articles on Grindr purposely ignoring the drug issues on its app. Grindr is scum, not mentioning all of the guys using it to cheat on it.

I could go on forever about this piece of garbage app. The last few months, Grindr has been running specials so you can see an endless amount of men, easily counting you with different users, encouraging them to meet during a pandemic. Fuck Grindr. Isn’t a notification still going to be from “Grindr” though? It’s also going to be labeled Grindr on the Home Screen. I think most people are more familiar with the name than the icon. I don’t even know what the icon looks like.

Android has that too it's called an app drawer. Androids is honestly kinda better since you have the option to hide apps from the app drawer but on iPhone if you use it and it's installed on your phone it'll likely be in the suggested app folder right at the top. Hard disagree. This is information for an extremely specific subset of the population. Not only do you have to be gay, you also have to use Grindr or a similar app, have a phone that tends to be seen by others, having those others not know you’re out or otherwise being judgemental, and to actually care about / be ashamed by those peoples’ words and actions.

Didn't you know!? You are in danger if a gay basher sees your grindr app icon on your phone!!!!

I mean sure... That sounds unlikely and they'd also have to know what it looks like and then care enough to cause a problem.

Meanwhile I've had the opposite issue being in LA. I was in a movie theater pre covid for an imax showing and a bunch of gay guys were obnoxiously showing each other all their dirty pics and stupid shit to each other without a care in the world to the annoyance of everyone else around them. you’ve reduced the discretion of it. It’s pretty decently advertised in the app if you use it for more than a night so really I feel like only people who don’t use the app are gonna learn from this post. That’s super fucking cool of them that kinda shit matters more than adding someone with rainbow hair to the justice league or whatever pandering bullshit corporations are on about rn

If you are not out you probably shouldn't be using an app that tells everyone you contact through it that you are out. Don't be stupid.

"Showed up on someone's Grindr screen" is probably the single biggest cause of accidental outings these days. All you need is for that someone to already be out themselves and have a nose for gossip.

If you're not out and you're concerned about being outed, you probably shouldn't be on an app that continually broadcasts your sexuality to everyone in the room with a smart phone. realize that a lot of people have gay dating apps just to browse anonymously right? not everyone puts their info and pic on there. a real name isnt even required. That's not what the post was saying. It means that if someone looks over at your phone, like a "friend" and see it, and if they're homophobic, you could be in danger. Read the post next time. I did read the post. If you had actually read my comment instead of whatever you wanted to read, you would know that that exact situation is what I pointed out would be avoided by never using the app should you not be out yet and not want others to know your orientation.

However if this is actually a concern in your life then say;

It's where your girlfriends inappropriate pictures (or nudez) are and you will absolutely not show them because you love her,

delete the app everytime you're done with it after getting someone's number or only install it during times you can actively use it.

you can just say thats your porn folder and if they insist on having you open it then pull the ol switcheroo "ew you want to watch porn together? Seems pretty gay don't you think?" If you're around that type of toxicity.

Also PASSWORD PROTECT YOUR DEVICES and don't give it to anyone.
