SEC | S19W1: Designing Lesson Plans for The Triperfecta Online Academy

in #bt19w13 hours ago

Introduction:

Teaching is my passion. I am teaching for last 5 years unofficially and also im the one who teaches in a group of friends. I am a dedicated follower of the Feynmann technique, is a method where teaching others helps to better understand the topic oneself and retain it for a very long time. So In this post, I will share the journey of my online tuition academy, ‘The Triperfecta,' which my two friends and I launched last year in, August with the vision of teaching top-notch academic techniques and the primary focus of our team was to guide the higher secondary students to effectively study for their medical college entry test. Despite the challenges, we have successfully created a comprehensive and engaging learning environment.

Yearly Schedule:

We meticulously planned our yearly schedule to ensure the vast syllabus and all the important and practical topics are covered within 9 to 10 months, leaving the final 2 months for comprehensive grand tests, MCQs, and past paper solutions. Our classes run six days a week (Monday to Saturday) for 1.5 hours each evening from 6-7.30 pm, a time we found most convenient for everyone, also as me and my friends are the Medical Students ourselves so we hardly find any time in the morning .

Notes Preparation:

Being an online platform, our students rely heavily on the resources we provide. Therefore, 2 to 3 months before the session starts, all 3 of us dedicate ourselves to preparing comprehensive and easily understood notes, having all the needed knowledge and graphical illustrations to better grasp the concept. We use textbooks from various provinces and boards to ensure our notes contain advanced and diverse information, covering all the queries related to a certain topic.

Use of AI in Lectures:

In the era of Artificial Intelligence, who wouldn't want to leverage its benefits? At Triperfecta, we utilize AI apps and websites to prepare our lecture slides not only just saving our time but also making the process much more efficient and effective. Personally, I use Pop.ai for my presentations, while my colleagues use other AI tools and resources for their subjects. I do also share my hand written notes with them which I created when I was at their level. Also screen sharing your highlighted book and making them understand important points you conceived as a student is also a great way to teach which I frequently use.

Tests and Quizzes:

We conduct online MCQ-based tests, assign tasks with strict deadlines and also hold grand tests for two straight months annually before the board exams. While this period is hectic for us due to the volume of grading it is very essential for helping students learn from their mistakes. Previously I used to take test on google forms, creating 100s of mcqs, but now we use Quizizz.com, a user-friendly platform, to facilitate these quizzes.

Challenges:

While compiling lesson plans, we faced different challenges, especially with the vast syllabus seeming impossible to cover in a very short period of time. We started at a slow pace to help students better grasp the confusing concepts and get comfortable with the material and then accelerated from October onwards. This approach allowed us to complete the syllabus as we 3 planned.

Conclusion:

One significant challenge we faced was network issues, mostly from the students' side. To address this, we also recorded our lectures and provide the recordings to our students for a week. I hope you find our strategy effective. If you know any student struggling to find a mentor, let them know about our academy, 'The Triperfecta'.

I'd like to invite @huzaifanaveed1 , @el-nailul , @soulfuldreamer , @kouba01 , @eliany and @irawandedy to join this challenge.
