"We believe that everything that exists and is alive, is sacred and that is why nature is our main source of energy and inspiration. Unfortunately, people only remember witches around Halloween and always associate us with something bad, like magic black, rituals with animals and things that are not part of what we preach and teach ", comments the Wiccan priest Raul Costa, who represents a community of this religion in the country.
Wicca practitioners worship the Sacred Feminine (philosophy of life) and do not use sacrifice or animal blood, as the priest explains, they do not believe in the devil. The intention is always to preserve Mother Nature and all the species that inhabit it, taking advantage of the benefits found in the environment. "We always follow the truth of our hearts and our relationship with religion happens 24 hours a day, in a natural and intrinsic way", says Raul.
And as in most religions, there are rules and doctrines to be followed, respecting dates and calendars. Sabbats, for example, are celebrations made during the changing of the season, totaling eight during the year. The blurs are full moon celebrations, when the energy of the "Mother Goddess" reaches its fullness. "Our rituals and celebrations are intended to help others and balance the flows of planet Earth", comments the Wiccan.
To become a wizard, Raul Costa says that it takes a lot of dedication and study, in addition to being prepared to follow the doctrine that preaches that everything is an exchange and that you are responsible for all your actions and for your entire destiny.
Wicca can be practiced in groups or individually. There are several covens (formal meetings) in Brazil, some closed and others that accept new members. There is an exchange of knowledge, energy, love and joy. "In addition to studying hard and dedicating yourself to this art, as we like to call witchcraft, you need to be prepared and accepted among your peers. And remember that Wiccans tend not to publicly disclose being followers of the Old Faith, to avoid any kind of discrimination, and one of the first actions of a wizard is the vow of secrecy, which protects his rituals, identity and the mysteries of the practice ", says the priest.
