NYC Severe Weather Possible Today Dorian Brush Friday
Good morning everyone. We have a lot going on weather-wise here and throughout the region. For us, a frontal boundary running into some soupy air, could touch off some severe weather late this afternoon/evening. Meanwhile, we are still watching Hurricane Dorian, which has its sights set on South Carolina and North Carolina. Towards the end of the week, he'll be bringing conditions up here as if we got brushed by a Nor'Easter.
We also have Tropical Storms Ferdinand & Gabrielle, but they pose no threat to the United States. nor will they.

Today we'll have sun and clouds, warm and humid conditions. A cold front pushing through will touch off some thunderstorms slated to move through the area by late afternoon/evening. We are already seeing some storms well upstate, and they are bringing hail and gusty winds. Look for similar issues with our batch of storms later on, plus the slight chance of an isolated tornado as well.
As with any line of storms, we'll have to wait and see if they survive the trip or not, so we'll be watching the radar closely and seeing how this unfolds. Highs today in the mid 80's, but could see a few temps pushing 87/88 in spots if we get some extra sun in the early afternoon.
Tomorrow we are looking fair and comfortable, with more sun than clouds, and highs in the mid to upper 70's. Clouds will increase as the day goes on, and a fresh ENE breeze should develop in the evening/overnight. This is from the approach of Hurricane Dorian, which will move well to our south. However, we will find ourselves on the edge of the wind field, clouds, and precipitation.
On Friday, we'll have the slight chance of some gusty showers sneaking in as Dorian is on the move towards Nova Scotia/Newfoundland. Expect a cloudy, cool, and windy day, with ENE winds sustained at 20-25mph and gusts possibly 35-40, especially at the immediate shore and Forks of Long Island. We could also see an enhanced high tide, but we won't see a destructive storm surge out of this.
Our weekend continues to look every nice, with mostly sunny skies and comfortable temps/humidity levels both days. Expect mid 70's on Saturday, then 75-80 degree temps on Sunday.
In the long range, we take dry and comfortable weather into the beginning of next week, then could squeeze out another warm and humid day before the next cold front pushes through. We are now officially getting into fall mode, where system speed is starting to increase, the warmer air is pushing less further north on average, and average to slightly below average temps, will begin to outnumber well above average temps.
Hurricane Dorian is now on the move, heading NNW at 8mph and still has sustained winds at 105mph with higher gusts. This is still a dangerous system, especially when it comes to storm surge. Areas of northern FL, GA, SC, and NC, are still under storm surge warnings, so listen to your local officials and take action if needed.
As far as the winds are concerned, areas of SC and NC have the best chance to see the highest winds out of Dorian compared to FL or GA. Look for Dorian's center to edge very close, if not make landfall, somewhere on the norther coast of SC or the outer banks of NC. Cities such as Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and Wilmington, need to take note and remember that they are not out of the woods yet.
