Normalize Breastfeeding

I'm a huge advocate for breastfeeding and normalizing it in a society that has sickeningly sexualised breasts to the point where it's okay to walk around half naked but not to feed your own child.

A recent incident where a woman was secretly recorded and sexualized whilst pumping milk at work (read here: http://wordjedi.co.za/normalisebreastfeedingsa/) has raised quite an uproar here, and other incidents like moms being asked to leave restaurants or to pump in toilets or even feed in toilets, are not okay. Newsflash, the actual purpose of breasts is to supply milk to one's baby.

Please follow the link below and sign the petition to protect us breastfeeding mommies in South Africa! It's so important that we stop being victimized!

Rule no. 1: Nobody have control over you!

its a messed up world. you can also add deliberate medical industry efforts to sabotage natural milk at the time of birth and that the longer a child breastfeeds the more intelligent the child is - but the entire US debt system is designed to get mom back to work in 2 weeks after delivery and that usually causes attachment issues and rejection. The only most important thing we really have to do here is protect and nurture children. Meanwhile in The Nations Capitol 500 children go missing each month and they have pedophile and murder houses fronting as pizza parlors where the main customers are the people? who are running the government

I understand how this can be seen as sexual but I also believe you have a point. The longer that baby get mamas milk the better. On the other side so long as she dosent have the entire breast exposed no one should have a problem. Males see boobs and they go crazy just like girls might drool over a hot toned guy, its in their nature.

yes, I can definitely understand that breasts have a double duty :P lol. it's just disgusting that breastfeeding women are exploited and harassed because it's so unbalanced. If it's okay to see boobs hanging out on the red carpet why is it not okay to breastfeed in public? Especially as breastfeeding is generally done so subtly, with a cover or baby's head blocking most of the view. It's like saying you eat meat but then getting offended when the Asian countries eat dog or cat.

Totally agree! I can't believe people think it's gross for a mother to feed her baby. Everything is oversexualized, it's ridiculous sometimes.

Just do what you do, I think more and more people will be on your side if you have honest intentions.

Great post! And thanks for raising your voice about this, @momnivogue. I just left a breastfeeding friend's home. Was with her nearly a week to be a caring presence while her husband traveled on business. (She's got an 8 and 6 year old, in addition to a 3-month old. Full hands! lol)

I never birthed children, and was bottle-fed myself, so I felt much more distant from the issue/cause, than I do now.

It is shockingly beautiful and natural... two things dominant culture knows little about these days! 🤔

Anyhoo, in addition to being a (vegan) breastfeeding, unschooling mama... she also used to live in South Africa! I'm gonna share this post with her to connect you guys. 🌸

Thanks for your support :) And awesome that you could help her, definitely sounds like she has her hands full! And I would love to connect :D thank you

I love it when I stumble upon mommy bloggers, definitely following you! I never had the blessing of breastfeeding my son, but my sister still proudly breatsfeeds her two year old, wherever she damn well pleases ;)

Yes! There should be more parenting posts on Steemit!

Followed back :D
