A security breach is one of the earliest stages of a security attack by a malicious intruder, such as a hacker, cracker or nefarious application. Security breaches happen when the security policy, procedures and/or system are violated. Depending on the nature of the incident, a security breach can be anything from low-risk to highly critical.

In an organization, security breaches are typically monitored, identified and mitigated by a software or hardware firewall. If an intrusion, abnormality or violation is detected, the firewall issues a notification to the network or security administrator.

The security problems on the Internet are manifold and do everything; from the company to the computer users at home.

The film and music industry have been affected because of the problems with copyright protection found. Even if the MP3 files for us are nothing new, the accessibility of high-speed Internet connections and easy to add more space on your computer has made it simpler to download freely. Although the beginning of the MP3 paid and "video on demand" websites have confined such injury to the entertainment industry, which has not completely stopped.

Another group that challenges the internet security are big business. The firewall and encryption can protect confidential information of a company, but when they start to use all available Internet operations, should be monitored at all times security points. Fortunately, with the new software and trained workforce, these companies have many ways to provide them with their data in line safely through the abuse, higher efficiency, and monitoring of all activities.

For the home computer user, the security risks can be even harder. Not only do you care more than viruses corrupt their computers, but they will also worry about identity theft, data loss and even something as simple as keeping their loved ones safe from robbers.

The challenges of Internet security for general users of computers is a lack of information. For example, it is assumed that a firewall protects your computer at all. However, it is estimated that at least 40% of the Internet burglaries occur despite the use of a firewall.

The importance of constantly updating antivirus software is also widely underestimated. In 2003, the number of viruses was expected to grow by 11%. This should be borne by a relatively new form of viruses called worms. These viruses attack vulnerabilities in a computer that can add 10 to 20 errors per 1000 lines of code. In addition to this fact, viruses have become more advanced over time. Some who are particularly vicious slumber for the duration of the time that seems to have gone, then rebuild and lead to damage when they receive orders from their author?

So how do we improve our online security?

To start, make sure that the complete software is up to date. Including your anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware and operating system updates. Fortunately, computer companies do not find any weaknesses that arise in their operating systems that reduce the likelihood of an infection.

Perform regular backup your computer. That is a significant step for data recovery for infected or corrupted files.

Be careful to whom you provide your personal information. Make sure that any website that asks information such as name, credit card or even your address is reputable. It only takes a few minutes of searching, but you will still save years of pain.

The most important thing, in the end, is simply careful where you go, and what information you give.
