german.pngGermany has not lost in their last 22 games prior to last night’s friendly encounter against Brazil.

Germany lost in a game that would have been their 23rd game unbeaten but failed to keep the record as Brazil stole the game winning 1-0. Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus scored the only goal to give the Brazilians the win in Berlin.

This was the first star-studded meeting between both football nations since the humiliation of Brazil by Germany at the 2014 World Cup semi-final.

Gabriel Jesus helped Brazil to take the lead in the first half of the match with a powerful header that went past the German goalkeeper.

Jesus would have doubled the tally but for the fact that he failed to nicely finish a header to make it 2-0 for the South Americans.

Germany on that part had theirs but did not see the ball behind the goal keeper as Julian Draxler had a late shot tipped over as Brazil held on.

It was a nice experience for both teams in preparation for the soccer mundial billed for Russia.

Joachim Low’s side who are the current world champions and who also occupy the number spot on the Fifa ranking lost for the first time since being defeated by France 2-0 in the semi-finals of Euro 2016. They have won 16 times and drawn six times.

Before the match, Brazil coach Tite had said: “This has a huge psychological meaning – nobody needs to fool themselves about that.

“The 7-1 is like a ghost, people still talk about it. The more you talk about it, the less this ghost disappears. The wound is still open and the match in Berlin is a part of the process of closing it.”

Brazil coach Tite showed the importance of the game as he named what looked to be the strongest side that he had at his disposal as only Neymar was the name missing from the starting lineup. The PSG star is recovering from a fractured metatarsal.

What they said:
Germany boss Joachim Low: “It was to be expected that Brazil, with their injured soul, played their best team and were highly motivated.

“It wasn’t our day. We made too many mistakes, which allowed Brazil to grow in strength and confidence.

“We had a few young players who will learn from this, but in addition, the body language was not right from some players.”

Brazil defender Thiago Silva: “This jersey deserves a little more respect. That’s why I’m overjoyed about winning against a big opponent.
