Brave Browser... honest review and opinion.

If you are familiar with the crypto market, you probably have heard of the Brave Browser and Basic Attention Token (BAT). I liked the idea from the first time I heard of it because when looking to invest in crypto, so much of the market is speculation and Brave/BAT already has a functioning product with the Brave browser. When looking at possible investments in the crypto market, I did decide to enter into a small position in BAT, although I will say it is only about 1% of my portfolio.

Here is the video from their site that explains their product:

Brave centers around privacy, which I like. The internet has definitely become way to cluttered with ads. Facebook, and Instagram have become so heavy on the ads that it seems like I view 1 ad for like every 7-10 posts. The thing I find most annoying about the ads though is that if I search on google for an item, that item starts showing up in all my ads. They are literally just collecting your data and then selling it to companies in attempt to market to you. I am not arguing that they are allowed to do that, I am using their platform and I'm sure there is fine print somewhere explaining it... I just personally find it annoying. I don't need to search for a phone case on google and then see "loopy cases" pop up on my instagram for the next 3 weeks.

The main screen before you go to a website actually shows the numbers of ads, trackers, etc that has been blocked. They claim to save you money by saving you data, which I cannot prove although it seems like there is logic behind it if you have a limited data plan and you are using it on your phone. Here is a snapshot of the Brave homescreen:

I loaded the same website on both Safari and Brave and this is the comparison... note that there is not one but TWO banner ads on the site when viewed in Safari.

Overall, I like the Brave browser. It is clean, it has a smooth look to it, and it hides ads effectively. I do find that sometimes it seems to take a long time to load pages, so I have found that I have often closed a tab and then reloaded it... but not too often. It is a newer browser and I would expect that there would be some glitches here and there, but I would expect this to only improve with time. The icing on the cake to me is that you can view Facebook messages on it, where on Safari you have to download the Facebook messenger app. This allowed me to delete the Facebook messenger app from my phone.

The idea behind the Basic Attention Token seems interesting as well, you can send them to websites you like and there is value to it, which allows them to still receive ad revenue, but it is on a permission basis rather than just being spammy. BAT is a cryptocurrency which is able to be bought and sold on a variety of exchanges including Binance.

I have shared the browser several times with friends, but Brave recently started a promotion where if you promote the Brave Browser, they award $5 in Basic Attention Tokens. It costs you nothing to download whether you use my link or not but feel free to download it from here if you are interested in trying it. If you like it, share it as well! I see only good things from this!
