Dong energy changes its namesteemCreated with Sketch.

For many years the conglomerate that took up oil and natural gas in the Danish part of the North Sea was called DONG - Danish Oil & Natural Gas - a name that has amused all my English speaking friends. Later they even branded it as DONG Energy which made it even funnier. But now they have chosen, like so many other big companies with a perfectly fine brand, to rename the whole thing to Ørsted after the Danish physicist who was the first to connect electricity and magnetism.

As it kind of can be seen from the brochure above, their explanation is that they now produces much more green energy than oil and Natural gas. I was surprised that they choose a name with an Ø in it, but not that they changed the name. Who wants to be the laughingstock of our English neighbours.

Another fine Danish product that makes the Brits laugh is the SPUNK salt licorice. I know people who buys a lot of these small candy-boxes to bring home to Avalon as a fun gift for their friends.

Salt and Ammonium Licorice is a speciality only Danish and Finnish people really enjoy. Image from www.spunk.oern.dk

On the other hand... In Australia LotteryWest has a fine product called SlikPik, which in Danish translates to... erhm... well the most direct way of describing fellatio. A penis is called a pik, and another LotteryWest product called PowerPik is also funny for a Dane. The image below is of course from a Danish website.
