According to ancient Indian Buddhist scriptures, there was a small country in ancient India. The king believed in Shakyamuni Buddhism very much and worshiped the Buddha every day and chanted sutras. He is very religious. However, many religions prevailed in this country at that time, most people were confused by their preaching, and people became confused. This is not conducive to the rule of the country. The king wanted all his subjects to believe in Buddhism, so he came up with an idea: to teach his people by using blind people to touch elephants. The king said to his entourage: "Go find some blind people and come to me." The entourage quickly gathered a group of blind people and took them to the palace.
The entourage walked into the palace and reported to the king: "My lord, the blind man you ordered has now been taken to the front of the temple." The king said: "Tomorrow morning, you will take the blind man to the place where the elephant is, and then let Each of them could only touch a part of the elephant's body, and then immediately led them to the square in front of the palace."
The next morning, the king summoned all his entourages and tens of thousands of civilians to gather in the square in front of the palace. The crowd whispered to each other. No one knew what the king was going to announce. After a while, the messenger brought the blind to the king and the people on the square. Suddenly became quiet.
The king asked the blind man: "Have you all touched an elephant?" The blind man replied unanimously: "I touched an elephant!"
The king asked again: "Each of you told us an elephant, what does it look like?" The blind man touching the elephant's legs stood up and said, "Tell the Lord Shengming that the elephant is like a big paint bucket."
The blind man who touched the elephant’s tail said, “My lord, the elephant. It should be like a broom.” The blind man who touched the elephant’s belly said, “Lord, the elephant is like a big drum.”
Then, a person who touched an elephant’s head said that an elephant was like a large spoon, and a person who touched an elephant’s tusks said that an elephant was like a horn, and a person who touched an elephant’s tail said that an elephant was like a spoon. stick. And those who touched their ears said that elephants are like fans.
Finally, the blind man who came across the elephant's trunk said: "The king of sages, the elephant is really like a thick rope."
A group of blind people were divided into several groups, arguing with each other that they were right, but the others were wrong. They said one after another: "King! The elephant looks like what I said!" At this time, the people present laughed at this, and the king looked at everyone and laughed happily. .
This story tells us that all our judgments about things are not necessarily true attributes of things, but only the labels that make our life experiences shape in our minds.
