Cheaters Never Prosper

That old wise proverb, did it ever ring true? or has its truth just diminished with time? Either way it has never been less true than it is today. With advances in modern medicine and new techniques that discover banned substances in the system, it almost seems every week, or ever other week, a sporting hero falls from grace, and every single one of them has an explanation, a very credible explanation. "I didn't know he was wrapping my hands with plaster" "I didn't realize that substance was in that energy drink" " I trusted the wrong people" and the latest "The farmer fed the cows steroids, and i ate them, unknowingly". The problem is that some of these athletes are telling the truth, but most likely most of them are lying through their teeth and smiling while they do it.

How do the sporting bodies, who's sole purpose it is to make the rules and impose them, punish these miscreants?, simple, they don't. Instead the cheaters get a small ban and maybe a tiny fine, okay a large fine to an average person, but miniscule in the face of the millions that the cheater has already made and will stand to make in the near future when they return from their imposed holiday.

Lets say you give everybody the benefit of the doubt, so they get caught, get a ban and a fine, that should not be the end of it, the athlete, should on their return, be scrutinized on the molecular level for a set period of time, with random blood and urine testing and any other method used for drug detection, and when i say random I mean random, if they want your blood at 2 in the morning you better rise and shine and open up a vein, if they want your pee while your in the middle of your morning jog, you better learn how to pee and run at the same time, if they want a mouth swab while your in the throws of passion, better open your mouth and say Ahhhhhh. This period should maybe last five to ten years and in that time the vast majority of any thing the athlete makes from the sport should be withheld from them until the parole period is over. If they are caught again they get nothing and are banned for life, and if they test clean in that period they get 50% of their withheld winnings, the rest they get in another 10 years when further testing has been done as new techniques are made available.

Back To The Fight

Sorry about the rant, but as you may or may not know, Saul Alvarez failed a number of drug tests in the lead up to this rematch, was banned, and the fight was postponed, but here we are again, same fight, same opportunities(a shot at the world titles), and a massive payday.

First time around, this was a fight that every boxing fan on the planet was looking forward too, myself included. I didn't really care who won the fight, was just happy that it was happening, as fighters at the top now seem to avoid each other all to often in this day and age, although this does seems to be on the reverse more recently. Two world class athletes putting their records and reputations on the line in search of glory. The fight was a good fight, hard fought and very entertaining, but with a lot of controversy surrounding who actually won, a lot of people thought Golovkin won, less thought that Alvarez won, but still a fair number. The fight was awarded a draw.

This time around I will firmly be supporting a Golovkin win. Who will you be supporting?

The referee is ready, the judges are ready, and the fighters are in the ring... and now fight fans....
