Boston Bruins take on the Calgary Flames at Home
Bruins return Home and Lose to Calgary in a Feisty Game
In a tightly contested game at TD Garden, the Bruins lose to the Calgary Flames for the first time in 9 contests. The Bruins have now lost three straight games since Zdeno Chara got injured. The game was very physical, most face-offs ended with tussles in and around the net, and there was some close fights that never took place. However the game is another loss for the Bruins who desperately need points to remain a playoff bound team. Now three straight losses and with Tampa Bay looming on the horizon, it is not looking good for the Chara less Bruins.
Johnson makes 35 out of 36 saves to crush the Bruins
The Flames Goaltender Chad Johnson did have an extremely impressive performance posting 35 saves and only allowing 1 goal. He made a ton of saves on really solid goal scoring chances. The Bruins dominated most of the game, but Calgary just took advantage of their opportunities better. Johnson posted a .972 save percentage on the night. The only goal was really not his fault as it was a rebound and a pile up in front of the net, Johnson basically had no chance on the play. When a goalie plays this well it is basically impossible for the Bruins to win.
Someone Should Tape Torey Krug's Hands to his Stick
If I was a Bruins journalist asking Torey Krug some questions, it wouldn't be about story time, it would be why do you play 90% of the game with one hand on your stick? Why are you constantly losing puck battles because you aren't will to take a hit? You do realize as a defense man you are supposed to win puck battles in the corner boards and actually be able to take a hit to make a play right? Krug constantly is reaching in with one hand on his stick and letting the other player get to the puck first so he doesn't have to get hit. Either tape his hands to his stick, or trade him.
Bruins Blue Line Without Chara is Horrible
The Boston Bruins blue line right now is absolutely terrible. First off Joe Morrow, another terrible night, -2 on the night, and the game winning goal was 90% his fault. Joe Morrow is not a NHL defenseman, he was a complete waste to trade for and trying to salvage anything out of him to make that terrible Tyler Seguin deal look better isn't going to happen. Kevan Miller who the Bruins just gave a huge raise to, now gets over 4 million a year, and is horrible. Always has been, always will be. Why they gave him a raise I don't know, why they made him a 4 million dollar cap hit is pure insanity. Honestly Miller must have blackmail on the Bruins or something, he doesn't even belong in the NHL and he is definitely the most over paid Bruin. Not having Chara means, the starting line is Tory Krug and Adam Mcquaid, and as much as I love Darth Quaider he does not belong on the starting D pair for any NHL team. Torey Krug as I already said sucks, so that doesn't help at all either. This team desperately needs Chara back so they can have the top pairing of Chara and Carlo back.
Conclusion from this Game
Yeah, the Boston Bruins will be golfing and not playing in the playoffs this season. If they get Chara back, they will still likely lose to Tampa, and they will be further out of the playoff picture. The Bruins are now 4-5 on home ice, which is pathetic. They can't win without Chara and Rask in the game, and they have a horrible Blue Line for a defensively minded team. Their offense is good and it is a shame that players like Marchand will be golfing this spring and not playing in the NHL playoffs. The only way this will change will be if the Bruins by some miracle get Chara back quickly and he doesn't miss any more games at 40 years old. Or the Bruins could trade for some players, but if they get more rentals like Lee Stempniak that will just be a waste. I don't know if there is any way to rebuild the Blue Line with a trade, so this might just be another lost year.
