Eye on Artists: The Temptations

in #boombox6 years ago

Another dope band that has guitar in their music, but more distinctly catchy bass lines is The Temptations. The front of the band was just the lead and background vocals, which let them focus on dancing and providing interesting visual stimulus to enhance the effects of the music. "Aint to Proud to Beg" is a hit of theirs that has a good message about the nature of relationships and how significant others might make one feel and how important a confident and good friend you can count on might be in one's personal utility function--or at least perceived utility function.

"I Wish It Would Rain" is a slower more gloomy song of theirs.

"I Can't Get Next to You" is funky and has some interesting vocals soloing from the members of people with high and lower pitch voicings and the typical amazing instrumentals that make the intricate vocals and dancing even better of a show.

"Cloud Nine" talks about the metaphor that is the meme of cloud nine.

"Papa Was a Rolling Stone" tells the story of a father who isn't there going around laying his hat at different homes, but with funky instrumentals and a trance like repetition of vocals.

Wikipedia reports "Get Ready" by Smokey Robinson hit 29 on the charts in 66'.

Love and interpersonal relations can be an important, and for many it can be an important aspect of someone's identity. "Just My Imagination" is a song that discusses how one might feel about someone they desire to be in a relationship with and how one might envision an alternative world with the person they desire in some serious relationship.

"The Way You Do The Things You Do" can talk about how one might enjoy the eccentricities and small things of someone they really like. The song topped off at 11 on the charts according to wikipedia.

Even though it might be there biggest hit, "My Girl" is probably my favorite Temptations song. Just a great melody, uplifting, and some catchy instrumentals and great background and lead vocals.
